The present invention features a kit and method for replacing used antifreeze/coolant in the cooling system of an automobile. The kit is composed of inexpensive parts, consisting of: (1) a plastic, flexible capture tank; (2) a flexible plastic drain sleeve for directing fluid from a cooling system hose to the capture tank; (3) a funnel for introducing fluids into the cooling system via said radiator; (4) a hose adaptor for placement of a funnel into the hose line; (5) differently-sized hose menders for re-establishing a severed radiator hose line; and (6) metal clamps for tightening the severed hose portions about one of the appropriately sized hose menders.

A radiator flush/fill apparatus and process employing a flushing apparatus having a modified radiator cap, a pumping device and an automobile radiator containing a liquid, wherein the flushing apparatus comprises a modified radiator cap having an elongated hollow tubular member forming an elongated open fluid passageway through the modified radiator cap and extending into the automobile radiator for accessing the liquid present in the automotive cooling system; with one end of the elongated tubular member adapted to engage in a fluid tight relationship a connecting device connected to a pumping device for removing a major amount of the liquid from the automobile radiator through the elongated tubular member and for replacing the removed liquid by introducing a new liquid through the elongated tubular member.

A drain-and-fill machine is disclosed that can accommodate a cooling system having an inlet-side thermostat. The drain-and-fill machine includes a reservoir of fresh or recycled antifreeze/coolant and a reservoir to receive used antifreeze/coolant. The drain-and-fill machine introduces the fresh or recycled antifreeze/coolant into the cooling system of an automobile while simultaneously draining the used antifreeze/coolant into the used coolant reservoir. When the engine is cold, the engine's inlet side-thermostat will prevent new antifreeze/coolant from entering the cooling system, thereby making it possible to drain the used antifreeze/coolant from the cooling system, without simultaneously replenishing the cooling system with fresh or recycled antifreeze/coolant. The present drain-and-fill machine includes a thermostat disposed in the reservoir drain line having similar operating characteristics to the engine's inlet-side thermostat. The drain line thermostat will thus prevent the used antifreeze/coolant from being drained from the engine's cooling system when the engine's inlet-side thermostat is closed, until the coolant has reached a sufficient temperature to allow both the inlet-side and drain-line thermostats to open.

A cleaning apparatus and method for removal and replacement of the liquid in an automotive cooling system by use of a pumping device and by access to liquid in the automotive cooling system through the neck opening of the radiator of the automotive cooling system. The prior art requirement of introduction of one or more tees into heating hoses of the automotive cooling system is beneficially eliminated.
