    摘要: To send a connection control message associated with a first set of attributes, only a difference of the first set of attributes from a second set of attributes associated with an already active virtual circuit (to a common destination) may be sent (contained in the connection control message). The devices receiving the message may create the necessary configuration for the new virtual circuit by modifying a copy of the configuration of the active virtual circuit. Processing requirements may be minimized as the devices may not need to parse and decode long list of information element. The feature may be particularly important in setting up a virtual circuit for voice calls, as a long list of attributes may be associated with each virtual circuit, but the difference of attributes being only minimal.

    摘要: Described is a method and system for context aware profiling for wireless networks. The system may include a mobile unit and an access point. The mobile unit may includes a plurality of predefined contexts; each context including corresponding network settings. The mobile unit selects one of the predefined contexts and formatting and transmitting a request signal to enable the one of the predefined contexts. The access point includes the plurality of predefined contexts and receives the request signal from the mobile unit. The access point determines if the mobile unit has permission to enable the one of the predefined contexts and sends one of a permission signal and a denial signal to the mobile unit. When a permission signal is sent, the access point and the mobile unit apply the network settings corresponding to the one of the predefined contexts.

    摘要: Several keep-alive messages of point to point (PPP) sessions received from a remote system are aggregated into a single packet in an aggregation device (e.g., network access server). The aggregated packet is sent to a peer aggregation device (e.g., home gateway) at the other end of the PPP session. The peer aggregation device may send the status of the sessions in a single packet. As a result, the data traffic on a communication backbone due to keep-alive status checks may be reduced. Without waiting for the peer aggregation device to provide the status information, a proxy reply may be generated from the aggregation device.

    摘要: A network device (e.g., network access server or home gateway) providing different QOS (quality of services) to different layer-3 datagrams when transporting on tunnels. A tunnel may be implemented to provide different QOS to different packets depending on the packet header. The network device examines the header of each datagram to determine the specific QOS to be provided. At least the data portion in the datagram is encapsulated for transportation on the tunnel. The encapsulated data portion in turn is encapsulated in the form of one or more packets, with the packet format to reflect the QOS determined for the datagram. When the tunnel is implemented on UDP/IP and the datagram is an IP (Internet protocol) datagram, the TOS/Precedence bits of the IP datagram may be copied into the precedence/TOS bits of the UDP/IP packet(s).
