    摘要: This invention is a method to improve retention of a finish on nylon yarn, said finish containing the reaction product of epichlorohydrin with the reaction product of pyromellitic dianhydride with a long chain fluoroalcohol, comprising polymerizing said nylon in the presence of about 0.5 to 1 mole percent of a primary-tertiary diamine of the structure ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is an alpha, omega-alkylene group of 2 to 10 carbon atoms where cycloaliphatic, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are alkyl radicals of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sub.4 is an alkylene radical of 1 to 10 carbon atoms and R.sub.5 is R.sub.4 or arylalkyl, R.sub.6 is H or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbons, so that said nylon polymer is melt stable. Also, for batch processing, polyethyleneimines of 300 to 1200 molecular weight, methylaminobispropylamine, N-(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-propanediamine, and 3,3'-iminobispropylamine are useful.

    摘要: A dyed or undyed polyamide substrate, preferably film, fiber, or an article manufactured therefrom, with excellent breaking strength retention and ultimate elongation retention, is prepared by reacting a sufficient number of amine and/or amide-forming functional groups of a hindered amine with the end groups of the polyamide precursor(s) at a temperature sufficient for polymerization to occur, to thereby bind the hindered amine to the polyamide and inhibit migration, leaching, and volatilization of the hindered amine. The hindered amine is represented by the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 comprises the amine or amide-forming functional group;R.sub.2 is alkyl; andR.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkyl of 1 to 3 carbons; and --OR.sub.4 in which R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and alkyl of 1 to 7 carbons.The light stabilized polyamide substrate has particular utility in flags, decorative banners, and personal flotation device covers.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a process for producing bulked synthetic multifilament yarn comprising a plurality of continuous synthetic filaments having deposited thereon at intermittent intervals an adhesive polymer component having a melting temperature below that of the continuous synthetic filaments. The process comprises texturizing synthetic multifilament yarn to obtain desired bulk characteristics by directing heated yarn in a current of heated fluid against a yarn plug contained in a texturizing chamber, applying said adhesive polymer component in a molten condition to the surface of said yarn plug, and continuously discharging texturized yarn from said texturizing chamber at a lower linear rate than the feed rate of said yarn to said texturizing zone while said adhesive polymer component is still in a molten but solidifying state, resulting in bulked synthetic multifilament yarn having the adhesive polymer component deposited thereon at intermittent intervals.

    摘要: A synthetic yarn made from a blend of base fibers selected from the group consisting of polyester, nylon 6 and nylon 66, and 1-12 weight percent of a heat activated binder fiber having a melting point within the range of 165.degree.-190.degree. C., said binder fiber being made from a copolyamide which is derived from a mixture of 50 to 85 wt. % caprolactam, 0 to 40 wt. % hexamethylenediamine adipate or a combination of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid, and optionally a salt selected from the group consisting of hexamethylenediamine dodecanedioate, hexamethylenediamine azeleate, hexamethylenediamine sebacate and hexamethylenediamine terephthalate; and a chain terminator selected from at least one of the group consisting of a fatty acid and a fatty amines, wherein said fatty acid or fatty amine include at least 14 carbon atoms. The binder fiber is capable of being pelletized into chips, leached and spun into yarn on a package without any significant sticking either of the chips to one another or the yarn on the package.

    摘要: This invention is a water-resistant film for lamination to a textile material, and the flexible, laminated product produced therewith. The film has a permeability of at least 0.0008 metric perm-cm. at 20.degree. C. and 65 percent relative humidity and of at least 0.0006 metric perm-cm. at 30.degree. C. and 50 percent relative humidity. The film is formed from a block copolymer having a number average molecular weight of from about 15,000 to about 35,000. The block copolymer contains polymer segments prepared by the amination of a polyether formed by treating a polyethylene glycol with an alkylene oxide of three or more carbon atoms. The product is a laminant of a layer of the described film and a layer of a textile material, and is useful in the formation of water-resistant, moisture permeable articles such as garments, tarpaulins, tents, and the like.
