摘要:
Ink jet print quality is improved and higher pen speed permitted by a bidirectional printing protocol. According to the new protocol, each individual character to be printed is first partitioned into a leading portion and a trailing portion. The trailing portion includes all trailing edge bits. Only the leading portion is printed on a forward pass of the ink jet pen. The trailing portion is printed on a reverse pass of the pen, so that trailing edge ink drops are instead printed as leading edge ink drops. As a result, satellite ink drops are directed toward the center of the character, where they are covered by primary ink drops, thereby minimizing character edge roughness associated with exposed satellite ink drops.

A method of preparing an inkjet printing system with a print head in fluid communication with an ink reservoir and having a plurality of orifices and a corresponding plurality of associated ejection chambers includes providing a substrate and disposing a photoresist material on the substrate. A mask is provided between the UV light source and the photoresist material. The photoresist material is exposed to the UV light source to polymerize the photoresist material to form a barrier layer on the substrate. The barrier layer defines in part a plurality of fluid channels and the plurality of ejection chambers. An orifice plate is attached over the substrate. The orifice plate includes a plurality of orifices in fluid communication with the ejection chambers.

An ink containment system for an inkjet cartridge, for storing ink for printing, comprises a rigid basin member and a rigid moveable plate. A flexible membrane is affixed to a surface of the basin member and to a surface of the plate forming an ink reservoir within the basin member, plate and flexible membrane. A spring-biased mechanism is disposed between the basin member and plate, for biasing the plate apart from the basin member, generating a negative pressure within the ink reservoir and the basin member remaining stationary relative to the movement of the plate. The basin member has a bowl-like configuration and the spring is seated within the reservoir in such a way that when the ink reservoir has collapsed due to depletion of ink, the flexible membrane and moveable plate are substantially flush with surfaces of the basin member.

Various embodiments related to curable printing fluids are disclosed. One example embodiment provides a curable printing fluid composition for a thermal fluid ejection device, the composition comprising a curable liquid-phase monomer, a substantially nonaqueous volatile driver fluid capable of being vaporized by a thermal fluid ejection printhead, an initiator, a phosphate ester resistor protectant, and a colorant comprising a dye.

Bioactive agents are topically administered or delivered to a mucous membrane by a jet dispenser using inkjet technology, such as that used in printing. The dispenser propels precise volumes of droplets or powder for administration to a subject, such as being inhaled through the mouth or nose. A controller in the dispenser may control delivery of multiple different drugs, timing of drug administration, or change drug regimens in response to a changing medical condition of a patient, such as those monitored by a sensor in communication with the controller, for example to prevent an overdose. Administration methods are also provided, along with replacement kits.
摘要:
Described herein is a monolithic printhead formed using integrated circuit techniques. Thin film layers, including ink ejection elements, are formed on a top surface of a silicon substrate. The various layers are etched to provide conductive leads to the ink ejection elements. At least one ink feed hole is formed through the thin film layers for each ink ejection chamber. A trench is etched in the bottom surface of the substrate so that ink can flow into the trench and into each ink ejection chamber through the ink feed holes formed in the thin film layers. The trench completely etches away portions of the substrate near the ink feed holes so that the thin film layers form a shelf in the vicinity of the ink feed holes. In one embodiment, the shelf supports the ink ejection elements. An orifice layer is formed on the top surface of the thin film layers to define the nozzles and ink ejection chambers.

This invention provides an improved ink flow path between an ink reservoir and vaporization chambers in an inkjet printhead. In the preferred embodiment, a barrier layer containing ink channels and vaporization chambers is located between a rectangular substrate and a nozzle member containing an array of orifices. The substrate contains two linear arrays of heater elements, and each orifice in the nozzle member is associated with a vaporization chamber and heater element. The ink channels in the barrier layer have ink entrances generally running along two opposite edges of the substrate so that ink flowing around the edge of the substrate gain access to the ink channels and to the vaporization chambers.

An ink jet print head having a substrate with an upper surface, and an ink supply conduit passing through the substrate. An array of independently addressable ink energizing elements are attached to the upper surface of the substrate. An orifice layer has a lower surface conformally connected to the upper surface of the substrate, and has an exterior surface facing away from the substrate. The orifice layer defines a plurality of firing chambers providing communication to the ink energizing elements, and each of the orifices is positioned in registration with a respective single ink energizing element. The exterior surface defines a plurality of nozzle apertures, each providing the upper terminus of a single firing chamber. Each of the firing chambers is laterally separated from all other firing chambers by a septum portion of the orifice layer.
