摘要: An apparatus includes a first connector and a member. The first connector connects a first tubing section and a second tubing section together. The member is adapted to be moved from a retracted to an extended position to form a sealed connection between a first tubular member that is connected to the first tubing section and a second tubular member that is connected to the second tubing section. In another embodiment of the invention, an apparatus includes a first connector and a member. The first connector forms a connection between a first tubing section and the second tubing section and leaves a gap between a first end of a first tubular member that is connected to the first tubing section and a second end of a second tubular member that is connected to the second tubing section. The member is inserted into the gap to seal the first tubular member and the second tubular member together. In another embodiment of the invention, an apparatus includes a pin end that includes a first passageway in communication with a first tubular member and a second passageway in communication with a first tubing section. The apparatus also includes a box end that is adapted to receive a pin end. The box end includes a third passageway that is in communication with a second tubular member and a fourth passageway that is in communication with a second tubing section. The apparatus includes a locking mechanism to secure the pin end and the box end together.

摘要: A technique is provided for creating a well screen having a diffusion layer affixed to a filter medium to create a coherent structure. The diffusion layer is formed as a structure that freely allows movement of fluid, while the filtering medium is designed to filter particulates of a specific size. The diffusion layer is affixed to the filtering medium along a filtering medium surface to greatly improve collapse and burst resistance of the filtering medium. One method of affixing comprises bonding the diffusion layer to the filtering medium via a sintering process.

摘要: A technique that is usable with a subterranean well includes communicating a slurry through a shunt flow path and operating a control device to isolate slurry from being communicated to an ancillary flow path. The system may include a shunt tube and a diverter. The shunt tube is adapted to communicate a slurry flow within the well to form a gravel pack. The diverter is located in a passageway of the shunt tube to divert at least part of the flow. A slurry may be communicated through the shunt flow path, and a control device may be operated to isolate the slurry from being communicated to the ancillary flow path.
