    摘要: Biologically active materials are provided in a cylindrical carrier medium with better control over the rate of delivery and length of time of delivery by providing a carrier having dissolved or dispersed therein at least two compounds having a common biologically active nucleus, but with different solubility parameters. The combination of the two different variants of the same drug with different solubility parameters provides the material with control over the rate of release of the compounds (by varying the proportions of the variants) and most importantly, extending the useful life of the device by enabling release of effective levels of the compounds over a longer period of time. The cylindrical carrier medium, comprised of silicone, further includes a tail, a skirt, or a rate-limiting membrane.

    摘要: A computer-implemented system and method for selecting therapy profiles of electrical stimulation of cervical vagus nerves for treatment of chronic cardiac dysfunction is provided. An external programmer includes a plurality of therapy profiles stored in memory. The therapy profiles include different sets of stimulation parameters that cooperatively define alternating cycles of stimuli application and stimuli inhibition for a neurostimulator that are tuned to both efferently activate the heart's intrinsic nervous system and afferently activate the patient's central reflexes. A programming wand is configured to provide the set of stimulation parameters chosen by the user to the neurostimulator through wireless telemetry. Finally, an implantable neurostimulator device includes a stimulation therapy lead terminated by helical electrodes and electrically coupled to the neurostimulator. The implantable neurostimulator is configured to therapeutically stimulate the cervical vagus nerve through the helical electrodes by triggering bi-directional action potentials as specified by the selected set of stimulation parameters.

    摘要: A method for cell and electrical therapy of living tissue including administration of exogenous cells into a region of injured tissue and application of electrical energy. In one application the combined cell and electrical therapy is applied in vivo to damaged heart tissue. In such applications, minimally invasive procedures are used to apply the cell therapy and the electrical therapy is provided via an implantable pulse generator. In one application an implantable pacemaker is used in the VDD mode with an atrioventricular delay kept relatively short when compared to the intrinsic atrioventricular delay.
