Each blade has an airfoil cross section, defined by a chord line (Ch) and a camber line (Ca), and is positioned in the impeller at a setting angle (.GAMMA.). The outermost edge (Eo) of each blade is located at a distance (Rmax) from the rotational axis (Ar, Ar'). The angular spacing (.SIGMA.) between blades in the fan is uniform. Among the blades of the impeller, the values of at least one of the parameters distance from outermost edge to rotational axis (Rmax), length of chord line (Ch), maximum deviation of camber line from chord line (Dmax) and setting angle of blades vary randomly from reference values of these parameters. The random parametric variations reduce the blade rate tonal noise produced by a fan having such an impeller as compared to a fan having an impeller with uniform blade parameters.

An improved evaporator air management system for trailer refrigeration systems, including an electrically powered, vertical axis, axial flow fan, arranged so as to draw air through a horizontally mounted evaporator coil. The flow is then driven upward through a nozzle and discharged into the trailer. The nozzle shape graduates from a circular cross-section to a wide-aspect ratio rectangular cross-section, while turning through 90°. The preferred choice of axial flow fan for the invention is the vane-axial type incorporating outlet guide vanes. Provision is made for a single fan-nozzle configuration which may be either centered or transversely off-set with respect to the evaporator coil. An additional option provides for an arrangement with a pair of side-by-side fan-nozzles.

A module is provided for attachment to the roof of a bus and includes all of necessary components for conditioning the return air from the passenger compartment and delivering conditioned air thereto. A module can be ganged in various relationships to collectively provide the total capacity required by the bus. Each module includes an evaporator section, a condenser section and a power section including a compressor and an inverter. The evaporator sections have a return air compartment that extends a substantial distance across the roof of the bus such that a single design can meet the needs of various return air duct installations of various types of buses. Provision is made for the selectively mixing of return air with fresh air, with the mixture then being passed by the evaporator blower through the evaporator coils and into the supply air ducts. The frames of the modules are attached to the roof of the bus by rails which are properly spaced to accommodate the modules frame and allow their selective longitudinal placement.
