    摘要: The present invention is related to polycarbonate molding compositions containing a co-precipitate of a polycarbonate resin and a fluoropolymer. This co-precipitate was found to be suitable as an additive for polycarbonate resins because it offers improved dispersibility with the resin and good flammability performance as well as aesthetic characteristics. The co-precipitate is prepared by first mixing an aqueous dispersion of a fluoropolymer with a polycarbonate solution and then precipitating both using a suitable precipitation agent. After isolation washing and drying the co-precipitate of the invention is suitable for incorporation in a polycarbonate resin optionally with known flame retarding agents. Molded parts prepared from the compositions of the invention are characterized by their improved homogeneity and flame retardance.

    摘要: A molding composition comprising a polycarbonate resin and plating modifier was found to be suitable for preparing metal coated articles where the metal coating is deposited by an electroless process. The plating modifier in accordance with the invention is at least one member selected from the group consisting of a polyanhydride, and a monovinyl aromatic-acrylonitrile copolymer. An advantageous embodiment of the invention includes incorporating in the molding composition a flame retarding amount of a conventional flame retarding agent for polycarbonate compositions.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a continuous process for the preparation of copolycarbonates of sulfonyl diphenol (SDP) containing at least about 15, preferably about 15 to about 80 percent by weight of SDP and characterized in the particular system catalyzing the process reaction. The invention thus entails improvements and modifications to the known interfacial polycondensation process rendering it applicable to the preparation of copolycarbonates containing a high level of SDP comprising a combination of catalysts namely a phase transfer catalyst and a condensation catalyst.

    摘要: A process for making a photochromic optical lens is disclosed. In a first embodiment of the process a multi-plied laminate, containing a ply of photochromic thermoplastic polyurethane (herein “TPU”) and a ply containing thermoplastic polycarbonate, is first placed in the cavity of a suitable mold. The ply that contains polycarbonate resin is placed facing the cavity. Thermoplastic polycarbonate resin is then injected into the cavity. In a second embodiment, referred to as an over-mold method, polycarbonate is first injection molded into a molding cavity to form a substrate. Photochromic TPU is, in a subsequent step, injected into the cavity to form a superstrate overlay. In both embodiments, the articles thus molded are suitable for the preparation of optical lenses.

    摘要: A thermoplastic polycarbonate molding composition free from organo phosphorus compounds and having an improved resistance to discoloration caused by exposure to High Intensity Discharge (HID) light and heat is disclosed. Accordingly, the molding composition contains (co)polycarbonate resin, a dimeric benzotriazole and an ester of a 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamic acid. In a preferred embodiment, a sheet made of (co)polycarbonate resin is rendered improved resistance to discoloration by having applied to at least one of its surfaces an adherent protective film prepared from the polycarbonate composition of the invention.
