Abstract: A display device including a circuit suitable for controlling a liquid crystal element is provided. The display device includes two memories in one pixel and a plurality of pixels arranged in the horizontal and vertical directions share a gate line. The display device includes a liquid crystal element and by writing charges to different polarity capacitors, power consumption in an inversion operation can be reduced. Furthermore, a liquid crystal element with a high threshold voltage can be suitably used and a wide range of voltages can be applied without impairing grayscale display characteristics in the display device. Furthermore, a voltage higher than or equal to an output voltage of a source driver can be applied to the liquid crystal element.

The display portion has a function of displaying an image on a screen and includes a detection portion. The detection portion has a function of detecting a touch operation and a function of imaging, at least twice, a detection object touching the screen. The control portion has a function of calculating a difference between the area of the detection object in first imaging and the area of the detection object in second imaging to execute a different process depending on whether the difference is larger or smaller than a reference.

Abstract: A display device having a photosensing function is provided. A display device having a biometric authentication function typified by fingerprint authentication is provided. A display device having a touch panel function and a biometric authentication function is provided. The display device includes a first substrate, a light guide plate, a first light-emitting element, a second light-emitting element, and a light-receiving element. The first substrate and the light guide plate are provided to face each other. The first light-emitting element and the light-receiving element are provided between the first substrate and the light guide plate. The first light-emitting element has a function of emitting first light through the light guide plate. The second light-emitting element has a function of emitting second light to a side surface of the light guide plate. The light-receiving element has functions of receiving the first light and converting the first light into an electric signal and functions of receiving the second light and converting the second light into an electric signal. The first light includes visible light, and the second light includes infrared light.

Abstract: An object is to provide a highly reliable display unit having a function of sensing light. The display unit includes a light-receiving device and a light-emitting device. The light-receiving device includes an active layer between a pair of electrodes. The light-emitting device includes a hole-injection layer, a light-emitting layer, and an electron-transport layer between a pair of electrodes. The light-receiving device and the light-emitting device share one of the electrodes, and may further share another common layer between the pair of electrodes. The hole-injection layer is in contact with an anode and contains a first compound and a second compound. The electron-transport property of the electron-transport layer is low; hence, the light-emitting layer is less likely to have excess electrons. Here, the first compound is the material having a property of accepting electrons from the second compound.

Abstract: An object is to provide a display device having a function of emitting visible light and infrared light and an imaging function. Another object is to increase the definition without changing the density of imaging elements while the high resolution of an image displayed on a display device is kept. The display device has a layout in which a light-receiving region of an imaging element is provided between light-emitting regions of a plurality of light-emitting elements over one substrate. In the imaging function of the display device, as a means for increasing the definition of a captured image, the definition is increased without changing the density of imaging elements by capturing an image by time division.

Abstract: To provide a display device with excellent display quality, in a display device including a signal line, a scan line, a transistor, a pixel electrode, and a common electrode in a pixel, the common electrode is included in which an extending direction of a region overlapping with the signal line differs from an extending direction of a region overlapping with the pixel electrode in a planar shape and the extending directions intersect with each other between the signal line and the pixel electrode. Thus, a change in transmittance of the pixel can be suppressed; accordingly, flickers can be reduced.

The arithmetic circuit has a function of combining the first correction image data and the second correction image data to generate synthesized image data. The light-receiving device includes a first pixel electrode, and the first light-emitting device includes a second pixel electrode on the same plane as the first pixel electrode.

The common electrode includes a portion overlapping with the first pixel electrode with the active layer provided therebetween, and a portion overlapping with the second pixel electrode with the light-emitting layer provided therebetween. The display device preferably further includes a common layer positioned over the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode. The common layer includes a portion overlapping with the active layer and a portion overlapping with the light-emitting layer.
