    Abstract: The present invention provides a binder for lithium ion secondary battery electrodes that is obtained by emulsion polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of a surfactant, the ethylenically unsaturated monomer being composed, with respect to the total mass of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer, of 15% by mass to 70% by mass of styrene, 1% by mass to 10% by mass of an N atom-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer, 1% by mass to 10% by mass of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, 0.1% by mass to 5% by mass of an internal crosslinking agent, and 22% by mass to 82.9% by mass of another ethylenically unsaturated monomer that is copolymerizable with these substances, and has a glass transition temperature of −55° C. to 30° C.
