    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a first subpixel electrode, a connecting electrode, and a second subpixel electrode. The first subpixel electrode is on the first substrate and includes a first stem extending in a first direction and a plurality of branches extending from the first stem. The connecting electrode is electrically connected to the first subpixel electrode. The second subpixel electrode is on the same layer as the first subpixel electrode and includes a plurality of separation electrodes that do not overlap the connecting electrode. At least one of the separation electrodes is between a first sub branch and a second sub branch, which neighbor each other from among the branches. The second subpixel electrode is a floating electrode.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a first gate line, a first data line, and a first pixel. The first pixel includes: a first subpixel including a first thin film transistor connected to the first gate line and data line, and a first liquid crystal capacitor, wherein a first terminal of the first liquid crystal capacitor is electrically connected to the first thin film transistor and a second terminal of the first liquid crystal capacitor is configured to receive a common voltage; and a second subpixel including a second thin film transistor connected to the first gate line and data line, a second liquid crystal capacitor, wherein a first terminal of the second liquid crystal capacitor is configured to receive the common voltage, and a thin film transistor resistor electrically connected between the second thin film transistor and a second terminal of the second liquid crystal capacitor.

Methods of manufacturing a display device capable of reducing the number of process steps in the manufacturing process are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate; a pixel electrode including a first sub-pixel electrode and disposed on the first substrate; a second substrate facing the first substrate; and a common electrode including an electric field forming portion and a first slit portion, and disposed on the second substrate. The electric field forming portion includes a transparent conductive material. The first slit portion includes a first stem portion extending in a first direction, a second stem portion extending in a second direction different from the first direction and crossing the first stem portion, and a branch portion extending in the first direction and located on at least one of two opposing sides in a longitudinal direction of the second stem portion. Each of the first stem portion and the branch portion has a linear shape surrounded by the electric field forming portion.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display (“LCD”) includes: a substrate on which a pixel region is defined; and a pixel electrode which is disposed in the pixel region on the substrate. The pixel electrode includes: a plurality of unit pixel electrodes which are arranged substantially in a matrix form; and a connecting electrode which connects the unit pixel electrodes to each other. Neighboring unit pixel electrodes adjacent to each other in a column direction are separated from each other by a first in-between area extending along a row direction, neighboring unit pixel electrodes adjacent to each other in the row direction are separated from each other by a second in-between area extending along the column direction, and the connecting electrode is disposed in a region in which corners of the unit pixel electrodes face each other.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a first panel including a first electrode, which includes side electrodes in edge areas of a pixel, a central electrode connected to the side electrodes and disposed in a central area of the pixel, and fine branches, some of which are connected to the side electrode, a second panel in which a cutout, which corresponds to the first electrode and divides the fine branches, the central electrode and the side electrode into domains is defined, and which includes a second electrode, which is separated by the cutout and corresponds to each of the domains, where second slit patterns, which are provided by partially cutting out ends of the fine branches, separate the side electrodes and the fine branches from each other, and extend in parallel to a longitudinal direction of the side electrodes are defined in the first panel.
