    Abstract: A display apparatus includes a first substrate, a color filter, a gap maintaining pattern, a column spacer, and a blocking dam. The first substrate includes a display area and a peripheral area surrounding the display area. The color filter is disposed in the display area. The gap maintaining pattern is disposed in the peripheral area in a same layer as the color filter. The column spacer is disposed on the color filter. The blocking dam is disposed in a same layer as the column spacer and overlaps the gap maintaining pattern. The difference between the gap of the first and second substrates in the display area and the gap of the first and second substrates in the peripheral area may be decreased.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a first gate line, a first data line, and a first pixel. The first pixel includes: a first subpixel including a first thin film transistor connected to the first gate line and data line, and a first liquid crystal capacitor, wherein a first terminal of the first liquid crystal capacitor is electrically connected to the first thin film transistor and a second terminal of the first liquid crystal capacitor is configured to receive a common voltage; and a second subpixel including a second thin film transistor connected to the first gate line and data line, a second liquid crystal capacitor, wherein a first terminal of the second liquid crystal capacitor is configured to receive the common voltage, and a thin film transistor resistor electrically connected between the second thin film transistor and a second terminal of the second liquid crystal capacitor.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, pixel electrodes disposed on the first substrate and including a first sub-pixel electrode and a second sub-pixel electrode separated from each other and positioned in one pixel area, gate lines connected to the pixel electrodes, data lines connected to the pixel electrodes, reference voltage lines connected to the second sub-pixel electrode of the pixel electrodes, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a common electrode disposed on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate and including liquid crystal molecules, a first initial pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules corresponding to the first sub-pixel electrode for the second substrate surface is larger than a second initial pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules corresponding to the second sub-pixel electrode for the second substrate surface.

    Abstract: A curved display device includes: a display substrate curved along a first direction; an opposing substrate coupled with the display substrate and curved together with the display substrate; and a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules interposed between the display substrate and the opposing substrate, where the opposing substrate includes: a common electrode; and a first alignment layer disposed on the common electrode and which aligns a first portion of the liquid crystal molecules at a first pre-tilt angle, and the display substrate includes: a pixel electrode disposed in each of a plurality of pixel areas, where a slit is defined in the pixel electrode; and a second alignment layer disposed on the pixel electrode and which aligns a second portion of the liquid crystal molecules at a second pre-tilt angle, which is greater than the first pre-tilt angle.

    Abstract: A curved display device includes a display substrate curved in a first direction, an opposite substrate coupled to the display substrate, where the opposite substrate is curved together with the display substrate, and a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules disposed between the display substrate and the opposite substrate. The opposite substrate includes a common electrode and a first alignment layer disposed on the common electrode, where the first alignment layer aligns a first portion of the liquid crystal molecules at a first pretilt angle. The display substrate includes: a pixel electrode, where a plurality of slits is defined in the pixel electrode; and a second alignment layer disposed on the pixel electrode, where the second alignment layer aligns a second portion of the liquid crystal molecules at a second pretilt-angle, which is less than the first pretilt-angle.
