Abstract: A method and apparatus a first network entity in a wireless communication system supporting ranging capability is provided. The method and apparatus comprises: identifying, in a ranging block, one or more ranging rounds to transmit a ranging control message (RCM) with a multiple message receipt confirmation request (MMRCR) for a transmission of at least one first message comprising at least one of a set of ranging messages or a set of ranging ancillary data messages; transmitting, to a second network entity, the RCM with the MMRCR; transmitting, to the second network entity, ranging ancillary data in at least one ranging round of one or more ranging rounds following the RCM, wherein the ranging ancillary data is associated with the MMRCR; and receiving, from the second network entity, a ranging multiple message receipt confirmation (RMMRC) corresponding to the transmission of the at least one first message.

The method comprises determining a beacon interval including a ranging management period and a ranging period, wherein the beacon interval is a variable interval, generating a beacon signal including information for a number of channel access slots corresponding to a ranging contention access period (RCAP) and a ranging contention free period (RCFP), transmitting, to a receive apparatus, the beacon signal at the determined beacon interval, and transmitting, to the receive apparatus, at least one channel access slot in the ranging management period.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of a network entity in a wireless communication system supporting ranging capability is provided. The method and apparatus comprises: identifying a MAC sublayer management entity-receive-enable request (MLME-RX-ENABLE.request) primitive including a list of ranging scheduling time unit (RSTU) counter (RxOnTime) values and a number of RSTUs (RxOnDuration), wherein the MLME-RX-ENABLE.request primitive is sent to a MAC layer from a higher layer; in response to identifying the MLME-RX-ENABLE.request primitive, identifying a value of a MAC RSTU_COUNTER; determining whether the value of the MAC RSTU_COUNTER is set to an RxOnTime value included in the list of the RxOnTime values of the MLME-RX-ENABLE.request primitive; increasing the value of the MAC RSTU_COUNTER; determining whether a frame is received from another network entity based on the value of the MAC RSTU_COUNTER; and in response to determining that the frame is received, generating a MAC common part sublayer indication (MCPS-DATA.indication) primitive.

The method and apparatus comprises: identifying at least one set of bit strings to generate a ranging scrambled timestamp sequence (STS); identifying at least one initialization vector (IV) field corresponding to the at least one set of bit strings, wherein the at least one IV field comprises a 4-octet string; generating a ranging STS key and IV information element (RSKI IE) that includes the at least one IV field to convey and align a seed that is used to generate the ranging STS; and transmitting, to a second network entity, the generated RSKI IE for updating the ranging STS of the second network entity.
