    摘要: A latch system couples precision frames in a way that does not over-constrain the coupled frames. The position of a female latching device mounted to one precision frame is adjustable so that, prior to coupling, the latching device can be aligned to a fixed pin that is part of a fixed pin assembly mounted to a second precision frame. Once positioned, the female latching device is fixed in position with respect to the pin and mechanically coupled to the pin, so that the first and second precision frames are not distorted when the coupling takes place. Such latch systems can be used to provide a rigid and over-constrained connection between two structures that does not contain interference fits or the resultant deflection associated with interference fits.

The latch surface has a rotational latching range in which the latch surface latches the voice coil motor. A first magnetic detent is coupled to the hub and is active when the latch surface is in a first rotational segment in the latching range. A second magnetic detent couples to the hub and is active when the latch surface is in an offset second rotational segment in the latching range. The offset shapes detent torque over the latching range.

    摘要: A tolerance ring which provides a low consistent installation force profile as a rotatable member, such as a disc drive actuator, is installed onto a stationary member, such as a shaft extending along an axis. The tolerance ring has a substantially cylindrical base portion from which a plurality of spaced apart raised portions radially extend. Each raised portion has a contact surface with a substantially elliptical cross-sectional shape in a direction parallel to the axis and a pair of transition portions between the contact surface and the base portion. Each transition portion further has a continually radiused cross-sectional shape in a direction parallel to the axis so that, for each raised portion, a selected one of the elliptical cross-sectional shapes and the pair of radiused cross-sectional shapes is convex with respect to the axis and the remaining one of the elliptical cross-sectional shapes and the pair of radiused cross-sectional shapes is concave with respect to the axis.

    摘要: An E-block of an actuator for use in a data handling system to support a read/write head adjacent a recording surface. The E-block is formed by providing feed stock along a planar orientation, drawing a portion of the feed stock out of plane to form an extension portion, and stamping the feed stock to separate an actuator arm member having a substantially planar actuator arm from which the extension portion extends, the actuator arm configured to support the read/write head. A planar motor support member configured to support a coil of an actuator motor is also stamped from the feed stock. The actuator arm member and the motor support member are stacked and attached using a suitable process such as swaging or welding. The extension portion of the actuator arm member establishes a desired axial separation distance between the motor support member and the actuator arm.

In particular, the cartridge bearing comprises a stationary shaft, a bearing supported by the shaft, and a sleeve rotatably supported by the bearing for rotation about the stationary shaft. A first tolerance ring is disposed between an inner surface of the shaft and the post to secure the cartridge bearing in place during assembly. A second tolerance ring is interposed between the cartridge bearing and the E-block to secure the E-block.
