摘要: Medical devices that are visible by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and optionally, other imaging techniques, are described. In some embodiments, a medical device adapted for insertion into the body includes an elongated shaft and an electrically conductive path extending spirally about a portion of the shaft. The conductive path is capable of being connected to a current source. The medical device can further include one or more contrast agents (such as MRI contrast agents, radiopaque materials, and/or ultrasound visible materials), which can be arranged in a predetermined manner.

摘要: Medical devices incorporate therein imaging materials having selected MRI detectable nuclei to provide useful magnetic resonance images of the medical devices and proximate body tissue. Also, a method generates MRI images of such a medical device, and involves performing first and second MRI processes on a body portion including at least a portion of the medical device to obtain, respectively, first and second image data. The first MRI process is adapted to detect MRI detectable nuclei present in the proximate body tissue, and the second MRI process is adapted to detect the selected MRI detectable nuclei contained in the device's imaging material. The selected MRI detectable nuclei incorporated in the imaging material is not the same nuclei that the first MRI process is adapted to detect. The second image data are combined with the first image data to produce image data for the medical device and the proximate body tissue.

摘要: A stent having a polymeric coating for controllably releasing an included active agent. The polymeric coating includes a blend of a first polymeric material, which if alone, would release the agent at a first, higher rate, and a second polymeric material, which if alone would release the agent at a second, lower rate over a longer time period. One stent coating utilizes a faster releasing hydrophilic polymeric material and a slower releasing hydrophobic material. One stent coating includes a blend of a faster releasing PLA-PEO copolymer and a slower releasing PLA-PCL copolymer. One active agent is Taxol. One use of the Taxol delivering stent is to inhibit restenosis following angioplasty.

摘要: A high performance guide wire with a pressure sensor for measuring blood pressure, may utilize a single electrical lead connected to the guide wire. An integrated circuit, powered by the single electrical connection on the guide wire, may interface with the pressure sensor, and may convert pressure information to an encoded signal. The encoded signal may be detectable in the electrical circuit, and can be used to display a pressure waveform as detected by the pressure sensor. For example, when utilized for percutaneous coronary interventions, such a guide wire can provide high quality blood pressure measurements (e.g., for fractional flow reserve), while also possessing excellent steerability and handling characteristics for navigating tortuous anatomy.

摘要: A method for substituting at least one high quality position measurement of an object taken before an interrupting event with a set of upgraded low quality position measurements of the object provided by the same source of measurements after the interrupting event. The method comprises the following steps: (A) obtaining at least one high quality position measurement of the object provided by a source of measurements before the interrupting event; (B) saving at least one high quality position measurement of the object; (C) if at least one position measurement of the object provided by source of measurements after the interrupting event is of substantially high quality, using at least one position measurement of substantially high quality of the object for navigation purposes of the object; and (D) if each position measurement of the object provided by the source of measurements after the interrupting event is of low quality, and if there is not at least one restoration event; then upgrading at least one position measurement of the object by using an upgrade algorithm.

摘要: Various configurations of systems that employ leadless electrodes to provide pacing therapy are provided. In one example, a system that provides multiple sites for pacing of myocardium of a heart includes wireless pacing electrodes that are implantable at sites proximate the myocardium using a percutaneous, transluminal, catheter delivery system. Each of the electrodes contains a source of electrical energy for pacing the myocardium and is adapted to receive electromagnetic energy from a source outside the myocardium. The system also includes a source adapted for placement outside the myocardium and that uses locally measured electrocardiograms to synchronize pacing of the heart by sending electromagnetic commands to the electrodes to pace the myocardium surrounding the electrodes. Also disclosed is various configurations of such systems, wireless electrode assemblies, and delivery catheters for delivering and implanting the electrode assemblies.
