Abstract: A surgical robot arm comprises a base connected to a terminal link (503) via a series of intermediate joints. The terminal link (503) comprises a drive assembly interface comprising drive assembly interface elements (1101a,b,c). Each drive assembly interface element is configured to: engage an instrument interface element (901a,b,c) of an instrument interface of a robotic surgical instrument when the surgical robot arm engages the robotic surgical instrument; and move relative to the drive assembly interface across a range of motion so as to, when engaged with the instrument interface element, transfer drive to that instrument interface element. The drive assembly interface elements are arranged across a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the terminal link such that the robotic surgical instrument is detachable from the surgical robot arm in a detachment direction parallel to the plane when each drive assembly interface element is anywhere within its range of motion.

Abstract: Multifunctional device for MIS includes handle 200, a shaft 700, a multifunctional head assembly 300 and an articulation joint 800. The head assembly 300 includes a suturing unit 1100/1400 and an upper and a lower grasper unit 400 located in planes above and below the suturing unit. Each grasper unit 400n comprises a pair of graspers 402 configured to pivotally move in the plane of the grasper unit 400 about axis 414 to grasp tissues or a suturing thread, as well as to move pivotally perpendicular to the plane of the grasper unit 400 about axis 412 to pull the grasped suturing thread for knot tightening. Configuration of the head assembly 300 causes loose end portion of thread, when grasped by grasper unit 400, to be located within a circular zone of needle, which enables looping of needle side portion of thread around loose end portion.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for evaluating spinal stiffness of a patient. One method may include providing a database model based on existing patient data with normalized spine stiffness data. Segmental stiffness may be measured intraoperatively, for example, using a force-sensing instrument, and compared to the database model. A surgical task, such as osteotomy or ligament release, may be performed based on guidance from the database model to adjust the spinal stiffness of the patient. Segmental stiffness may be measured after each surgical task, thereby updating the database model with each reading on segmental stiffness in real time. Each level may be addressed until targeted stiffness values, such as segmental stiffness and global stiffness, are reached based on the database model.

Abstract: A medical device and methods for altering lung volume are disclosed. The medical device includes a coil formed of a biodegradable material including a first bioabsorbable material that is configured to deactivate a portion of a lung as the coil degrades. The method includes positioning a first coil adjacent a first target within a patient and permitting the first coil to degenerate such that a first bioabsorbable material deactivates a first portion of a lung. The first coil is formed of a biodegradable material and includes the first bioabsorbable material.

Abstract: A surgical system may include a conductive stylet with a distal end advanceable into bone material and a proximal end coupled to a stylet hub. A handle is non-removably attached to the stylet hub, and removably attachable to an insulative cannula hub. The cannula hub is non-removably attached to a conductive cannula that surrounds the stylet when the handle is attached to the proximal end of the insulative cannula hub. An outer insulative sheath is slideably engaged to insulative cannula hub, and has a radio-opaque distal tip. An electrical signal source may be applied to the stylet hub to conduct a pedicle integrity assessment. The handle and stylet may be removed from the cannula assembly, leaving the cannula assembly in place at the surgical site.
