A negative type silver halide photographic material and a process for forming a super high contrast negative image using said material are described. This photographic material comprises a support having provided thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer which has a substantial influence upon image density and at least one light-insensitive hydrophilic colloid layer, wherein a hydrophilic colloid layer other than said silver halide emulsion layer contains a hydrazine derivative in a non-diffusing condition. With this photographic material, a super high contrast negative image can be obtained without decreasing sensitivity and gamma by the use of a developer containing not less than 0.15 mol/liter of sulfite ions and having a pH of from 10.5 to 12.3.

A method for forming an image comprising the steps of: (a) imagewise exposing silver halide photographic materials; where said photographic material contains (1) a compound represented by formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aryl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an amino group, a carbamoyl group, or an oxycarbonyl group; G.sub.1 represents a carbonyl group, a sulfonyl group, a sulfoxy group, ##STR2## or an iminomethylene group; and A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 both represent a hydrogen atom, or one of A.sub.1 or A.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom and the other represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkylsulfonyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylsulfonyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted acyl group, and (2) a redox compound that can release a development inhibitor when oxidized; and (b) subjecting said imagewise exposed silver halide photographic materials to development-processing where a bath used in said development-processing contains a nucleation development accelerator.

The present invention relates to a method for processing a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing silver iodide with a processing solution having fixing ability after developing the light-sensitive material. The object of the present invention is to speed up the fixing process in the foregoing method and to reduce the amount of waste liquor from the fixing process. The present invention is characterized in that the processing with the processing solution having fixing ability is performed while the processing solution is brought into contact with an anion-exchange resin and that 20 to 2,000 l of the processing solution per liter of the anion-exchange resin is brought into contact with the resin.

A method for processing a silver halide photographic material which comprises processing an imagewise exposed silver halide photographic material with a processing solution having a fixing ability containing (1) a thiosulfate As disclosed, wherein said processing solution having a fixing ability further contains at least one of (2) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a bisulfite and a sulfite, and a compound represented by formula (A'): ##STR1## wherein R'.sub.1, R'.sub.2, R'.sub.3, R'.sub.4 and R'.sub.5 each represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent other than a hydroxyl group or a group containing a hydroxyl group, provided that at least one of R'.sub.1 to R'.sub.5 is at least one of a sulfo group and a group constaining a sulfo group and (3) at least one bisulfite addition product of a compound represented by formula (A'). In the method, a fixing solution having a pH of from 5.0 to 9.0 or a bleach-fixing solution with improved stability over time during continuous processing and exhibiting excellent desilvering performance is used. The method provides an image showing a reduced increase in stain with time and realizes improvements of the working environment.

A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion and at least one light-insensitive layer is disclosed. One or more of the layers of the material contains an ultraviolet ray absorbing polymer latex which comprises a homopolymer or copolymer having a repeating unit derived from a monomer represented by the general formula (II) in which one or more ultraviolet ray absorbing compounds represented by the general formula (I) is loaded: ##STR1## the substituents within the general formula are defined within the specification. The material has excellent absorption characteristics in the 300 to 400 nm range and does not cause static marks caused by ultraviolet rays or undergo deterioration of color reproduction. In addition, the material has good film strength and reduced layer thickness and provides a color image having improved sharpness which is free from fading or discoloration due to light.
