摘要: A supported olefin polymerization catalyst system and a method of making it are disclosed. The catalyst system comprises: (a) a support chemically treated with an organoaluminum, organosilicon, organomagnesium, or organoboron compound; (b) a single-site catalyst that contains a polymerization-stable, heteroatomic ligand; and (c) an activator. Chemical treatment is a key to making supported heterometallocenes that have high activity and long shelf-lives, and can effectively incorporate comonomers.

摘要: A multiple site solid catalyst component capable of producing polyolefins having a broad or multimodal molecular weight distribution, such as a bimodal molecular weight distribution, is prepared by contacting a particulate solid support with a zirconium compound or complex to bind the zirconium compound or complex to the support, optionally followed by contacting the supported zirconium compound or complex with a Lewis acid to produce an intermediate product, optionally isolating and washing the supported zirconium compound or complex or resulting intermediate product to remove soluble by-products therefrom, and reacting the washed or unwashed supported zirconium compound or complex or intermediate product with a titanium or vanadium compound to produce a solid catalyst component.

摘要: Catalysts useful for polymerizing olefins are disclosed. The catalysts comprise an activator and a Group 4 metal complex that incorporates a dianionic, tridentate 2-aryl-8-anilinoquinoline ligand. In one aspect, supported catalysts are prepared by first combining a boron compound having Lewis acidity with excess alumoxane to produce an activator mixture, followed by combining the activator mixture with a support and the tridentate, dianionic Group 4 metal complex. The catalysts are easy to synthesize, support, and activate, and they enable facile production of high-molecular-weight polyolefins.

摘要: A vanadium-containing catalyst system particularly suited to the polymerization of blow moldable olefin polymers. The catalyst system includes a supported, first catalyst component prepared by contacting preheated silica, with (1) a compound or complex which includes at least one carbon to magnesium covalent bond and (2) a compound which includes at least one carbon to Group III metal covalent bond. The sequence of contact of the silica with compound or complex (1) and compound (2) is optional. However, unless the compound or complex (1) and the compound (2) contact the silica simultaneously, the product of this contact is next contacted with whichever of compound (1) or (2) does not initially contact the silica. The product of the step of contacting with compounds (1) and (2) is contacted with a vanadium compound which includes at least one halogen atom. Finally, the product of the vanadium compound contacting step is contacted with an alcohol. A second component of the catalyst system is an organoaluminum compound cocatalyst. The catalyst system also includes a halocarbon compound promoter as a third catalyst component.

摘要: A method for making ethylene polymers and copolymers is disclosed. The method uses a catalyst system comprising a low level of an aluminum-containing activator, a bridged indenoindolyl transition metal complex, and a treated silica support. The method enables economical preparation of ethylene copolymers having very low density. The silica-supported, bridged complexes incorporate comonomers efficiently and are valuable for a commercial slurry loop process. Use of a bridged indeno[2,1-b]indolyl complex provides exceptionally efficient comonomer incorporation, and gives polymers with a substantial and controlled level of long-chain branching. The method facilitates the production of a wide variety of polyolefins, from HDPE to plastomers.

摘要: A process for polymerizing an olefin is disclosed. The olefin is polymerized with a catalyst precursor in the presence of an activator and an organosilane modifier. Use of the organosilane increases polyolefin molecular weight. The process is easy to practice and affords polyolefins with conventional polymerization methods such as slurry polymerizations or gas-phase polymerizations.

摘要: A process for preparing a polyethylene in a multi-stage process is described. The process comprises pre-treating a Ziegler catalyst in a first stage in the presence of a 1-olefin/ethylene mixture or a 1-olefin to produce a LLDPE or VLDPE, which have the characteristics of a polymer prepared with a single-site catalyst, e.g. high levels of short-chain branching that are uniformly distributed. The contents of the first stage are then transferred to a second stage where an ethylene or an ethylene/1-olefin mixture is polymerized in the presence of the pre-treated catalyst to form a polyethylene with good processability.

摘要: A catalyst useful in the polymerization of olefins, especially ethylene, is disclosed. The catalyst is obtained by admixing a zinc composition, a zirconium composition and a vanadium composition. The catalyst may be combined with a co-catalyst and, optionally, a modifier to yield an olefin polymerization system. The catalyst exhibits extremely high activity, good hydrogen response and produces polymers having broad molecular weight distribution ("MWD") and manifesting bimodal MWD profile.
