摘要: To obtain a method for controlling power of a computer, a power control apparatus, and the computer which can prevent a user from feeling uneasy unnecessarily and inhibit a power-on problem from arising again. When the power switch is depressed, the power-on self test (POST) starts and if there is no error detected by that test in connection with the initialization of the IC, the operating system OS is loaded to make the computer operative (steps 200 through 208). If there is any error detected, a determination is made whether that error occurs as frequently as or more frequently than a predetermined number of times. If that error occurs as frequently as or more frequently than the predetermined number of times, an error indication is displayed and then the process ends. If that error occurs less frequently than the predetermined number of times, the error history is stored and then a setup for stabling the hardware operation is selected. Then, a restart signal to restart the computer is sent and the process ends (steps 210 through 220).

摘要: Apparatus includes a main body having a function of reducing performance of the apparatus during operation, an AC adapter which is connectable to the main body and supplies power to the main body from a commercial power source, and a rechargeable battery which is connectable to the main body and discharges to supply power to the main body. Apparatus operates without reducing the performance even while the power supplied from the AC adapter is turned off and the power is supplied from the battery during a peak shift period (e.g. mid-day summer where limiting the power supplied by the AC adapter is desirable) in a state where both the AC adapter and the battery are connected to the main body, and thereafter, the power supplied from the AC adapter is turned on and power is supplied to the main body from the AC adapter even during the peak shift period.

摘要: In a power supply protection circuit, a FET and a diode are connected to a power line so as to protect an inner circuit from an excessive voltage caused by a device connected to an IEEE1394 bus. A switching circuit connected to the power line turns off the FET when the voltage of a port exceeds a reference voltage, which is lower than the withstand voltage of the inner circuit.

摘要: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for controlling power consumption of the PC, which is provided with base loads comprising a plurality of components, as well as a CPU including operation modes of “throttling” and “clock-down”. Actual power consumption 103 of the CPU in a certain operation mode varies heavily or widely within a range of maximum power consumption of the CPU. A variation of actual power consumption 101 of the base loads is relatively gentle or mild. Predicted maximum power consumption (Pmax) of the PC is obtained from actual power consumption of the base loads and maximum power consumption in the current operation mode of the CPU. Reference power vales 121, 123, 125 are set up such that they are compared with the Pmax for changing an operation mode to another operation mode. When the Pmax exceeds a reference power vale, the operation mode of the CPU is changed for controlling actual power consumption of the PC.

摘要: In a charging system used in a computer system employing a rechargeable battery, the number of charging/discharging cycles of the battery is detected based on a charging amount of the battery by a charger. A charging condition for the charger is set to increase the capacity of the battery until the number of charging/discharging cycles reaches a predetermined value, and the charging condition for the charger is set to increase the life of the battery after the number of charging/discharging cycles has reached the predetermined value.

摘要: A highly reliable protection element for a storage battery is provided. A protection element includes a low melting point metal body and heater elements. The low melting point metal body is connected to a charger side line and a storage battery side line of a charge/discharge circuit. The heater element is connected to the storage battery side line and a switch, and the heater element is connected to the charger side line and a switch. When the switches are operated, a voltage that is not affected by a voltage drop of the low melting point metal body is applied to one of the heater elements, so that the low melting point metal body can be reliably fused.
