摘要: An electro-optical device that includes a first module, a plate-like second module, and a hinge portion. The first module is provided with an electro-optical panel having a polarizer. The electro-optical panel is disposed on a side of a display surface of the first module, on which surface an image is displayed. The second module is provided with a reflective polarizer and has at least a translucent portion in area that overlaps with the reflective polarizer in a direction perpendicular to the reflective polarizer. The hinge portion couples the first module to the second module. The hinge portion supports the second module so that the second module, when pivoted about a first axis parallel to the display surface, is allowed to be switched between a closed position in which the display surface is covered and an opened position in which the display surface is exposed to an outside, while the hinge portion pivotally supports the second module about a second axis perpendicular to the first axis and parallel to the reflective polarizer. The polarization axis of the polarizer and the polarization axis of the reflective polarizer each are set in a direction that is not parallel and perpendicular to the first axis.

摘要: In a display device 100, a reflective polarizer 110, a polarizer 120, a retarder 130, a liquid crystal panel 140, a polarizer 150, and a backlight 160 are disposed sequentially from the viewing side. When the liquid crystal panel 140 is set in a light blocking state or the backlight 160 is set in an unlit state, the reflection of an outside light “O” turns the display screen into a mirror state. When the backlight 160 is set in a lit state to drive the liquid crystal panel 140, a transmitted light “T” allows a particular display screen to be visually recognized.

摘要: A liquid crystal device has a configuration including substrates 200 and 300 bonded to each other with a sealant 110 and a liquid crystal 160 enclosed in the gap therebetween. Common electrodes 214 are provided on the inner face of the substrate 200, whereas an underlying film 301, a reflective film 302 composed of a silver alloy, a protective film 303 covering the reflective film 302, and segment electrodes 314 are provided on the inner face of the backside substrate 300. Since the protective film 303 suppresses the crystal grain growth of the reflective film 302 at a high-temperature treatment, a decrease in reflectance is avoided. A lead 350 comprises a laminate of a reflective conductive film 352 having a crystal grain size which is larger than that of the reflective film 302 and a transparent conductive film 354 which is formed by patterning the same layer as the segment electrode 314.

摘要: A liquid crystal display element utilizing flexible gas barrier films decreases poor display performance caused by bubble formation. This decrease is achieved by reducing the permeation of gas and water vapor from the gas barrier films into substrates by devising the structure of the element and the configuration in which the element is mounted. Specifically, edges of the substrates forming the liquid crystal display elements are sealed. Additionally, the gas and water vapor saturation solubilities of the liquid crystal material is controlled to improve resistance to bubble formation. The liquid crystal display elements can also be subjected to and/or stored in a reduced pressure. Electronic equipment incorporating liquid crystal display elements can include a guard plate having a minimum thickness and/or spacing from the display elements.

摘要: An input device includes a first substrate that has a coordinate input surface, and a second substrate that faces the first substrate. In the input device, a position on the coordinate input surface of the first substrate is directly indicated, such that coordinate information at the indicated position is input. The first substrate and the second substrates are made of glass substrates. According to the coordinate input surface of the first substrate, a thin-plate region having a thinner thickness than the periphery of the coordinate input surface is formed.
