摘要： A laryngeal mask assembly has a mask portion formed by a flexible bag enclosing a mount attached to the patient end of a tube. The bag is sealed to the mount around an opening at the patient end of the tube. The neck of the bag is sealed to the tube rearwardly of an opening from a inflation lumen by which the bag can be inflated to form a cushion on the forward surface of the mount. The mount is curved rearwardly around its outer edge and the bag also inflates away from the rear surface of the mount to provide an expandable cushion on the rear of the mount.

摘要： A tracheostomy tube assembly comprises an outer tube and an inner cannula. The machine end fitting of the outer tube has a bore of circular section interrupted by two flats. The machine end fitting of the inner cannula has an external surface shaped to fit within the fitting on the outer tube and also has two flats aligned with the flats on the outer tube fitting. Tubes of different sizes or other characteristics have flats with different orientations such that only inner cannulae suited for a particular outer tube can be inserted in the correct tube.

摘要： An end fitting (31) is formed at the patient end of an inner cannula (3) for a tracheostomy tube (1) by punching small holes (33) close to one end (34) of an ePTFE shaft (30). The end is then swaged to form an expanded region (30′) and a preformed tubular insert (40) of a thermoplastic material is inserted to cover the holes (33) on the inside. An outer part (46) of the same thermoplastic material is then overmolded on the outside of the shaft 30 so that its material (47) flows through the holes (33) and bonds with the inner insert (40), thereby securing the inner and outer parts together around the end of the shaft.

摘要： An adjustable flange for a tracheostomy tube has a locking assembly (25) with two C shape clamp arms (26) and (27) hinged together at one end (28). A lever (50) with a threaded stem (51) extends through the opposite end of one arm (27) and into a threaded aperture (32) in the other arm (26). When the handle (55) of the lever (50) is inclined out of the plane of the locking assembly (25) it can be slid freely along the tracheostomy tube (1) for positioning. The locking assembly (25) is locked in position by rotating the handle (55) down to lie in the plane of the locking assembly. The flange (20) has two wings (22) and (23) connected with a central plate (20) by webs (42) and (43) of reduced width so that the webs flex to allow the wings to be lifted readily.

摘要： A laryngeal mask assembly has a mask portion of elliptical shape formed by a mount and an inflatable member attached to the mount. The inflatable member is formed by heat bonding together opposite walls of a flat balloon and at the same time cutting an aperture through the walls, so as to form a central web within an outer inflatable ring. The central web is attached to a concave surface on the forward surface of the mount with the aperture in the web aligned with an opening in the mount.

摘要： A face mask has a relatively soft canopy and a more rigid reinforcement member moulded together from different plastics as two shots in a dual-shot moulding process. The peripheral sealing edge of the canopy is tapered to a reduced thickness to increase its flexibility. The reinforcement member is a frame with radially-extending arms supporting respectively a gas port by which gas can enter the mask, a valve that allows air into the mask when there is an inadequate supply at the gas port and a selectively closable vent. The mask is secured to the patient's head by a harness attached to ends of the harness arms.

摘要： An obturator for a tracheostomy tube has a strap extending along its length between a nose at its patient end and a machine end with clips that fasten to a coupling on the tube. The strap has one web extending along its entire length and a second web extending orthogonally on one side of the first web to form a T shape section along the major part of the strap towards its patient end. This makes the patient end of the strap relatively rigid whilst its machine end is relatively flexible to enable the machine end to be twisted to release the engagement of the clips and to enable the obturator to be pulled out of the tube.
