Abstract: A communications device acting as a rely device is configured to transmit a buffer status report message indicating that the buffer is storing data received from the infrastructure equipment for transmission to a remote communications device, when predetermined conditions are satisfied or a trigger event occurs so that the transmission of the data to the remote communications device can make more efficient use of communications resources to transmit the data or the remote communications device receives the data when the remote communications device is in a state in which it should receive the data, for example when not in a reduced power state.

Abstract: A method of evaluating whether to handover a terminal device from communicating with a first network infrastructure element associated with a first communication cell to communicating with a second network infrastructure element associated with a second communication cell in a wireless telecommunications system. The method includes establishing an indication of radio conditions associated with a path between the terminal device and the first network infrastructure element; and establishing an indication of a second measurement of radio conditions associated with a communication path between the terminal device and the second network infrastructure element; and determining whether to handover the terminal device from communicating with the first network infrastructure element to the second network infrastructure element based on a comparison of the indication of the first measurement of radio conditions and the indication of the second measurement of radio conditions.

The controller circuitry is configured to: determine the speed of movement of the terminal device; and control the transceiver circuitry to transmit an uplink reference signal that allows the communication node to determine the channel quality between the communication node and the terminal device, wherein the rate of transmission of the uplink reference signal is determined by the speed of movement of the terminal device.

Abstract: A communications device acting as a relay device is configured to communicate with an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network and a receiving communications device operating with the mobile communications network. The communications device comprising a receiver configured to receive signals representing protocol data units formed from one or more service data units via a first wireless access interface from the infrastructure equipment according to a first automatic repeat request protocol for transmission to the receiving communications device, a transmitter configured to transmit signals representing the received protocol data units via a second wireless access interface to the receiving communications device according to a second automatic repeat request protocol, a controller configured to control the transmitter to transmit the signals and to control the receiver to receive the signals to transmit, and a buffer configured to store the protocol data units received by the receiver from the infrastructure equipment according to the first automatic repeat request protocol. The controller is configured in combination with the transmitter, the receiver and the buffer to transmit according to the second automatic repeat request protocol the protocol data units received from the infrastructure equipment from the buffer to the receiving communications device In embodiments of the present disclosure, upon receiving acknowledgement or negative acknowledgement signals from the receiving communications device, the communications device acting as the relay device may advance a sliding window of the buffer in order to clear space for the reception of future protocol data units. In embodiments of the present disclosure, the communications device acting as the relay device may, in response to a status request message from the infrastructure equipment, detect that one or more protocol data units have not been received, and transmit to the infrastructure equipment an indication of protocol data units which have therefore not been successfully received. Embodiments of the present technique may also include the relaying of signals on the uplink received by the communications device acting as the relay device from a transmitting communications device and relayed to the infrastructure equipment, or the device-to-device (D2D) relaying of signals between two communications devices.
