摘要: A display system includes a display panel and a backlight disposed behind the display panel. The backlight has a light guide and at least one light source that directs light into an edge of the light guide. The light guide comprises a front layer facing the display panel, a back layer facing away from the display panel, and a plurality of connecting members connecting the front and back layers. The spaces formed between the connecting members and the upper and the first and second layers are referred to as flutes. Light from the light source may propagate along the flutes.

摘要: A display system has a light source, a display panel and an arrangement of light management layers disposed between the light source and the display panel. The light source illuminates the display panel through the arrangement of light management layers. The arrangement of light management layers includes a fluted plate that has a front layer facing the display panel, a back layer facing the light source, and a plurality of connecting members connecting the front and back layers. In some embodiments the fluted plate includes a first light management layer, a cross member substantially parallel to, and spaced apart from, the first light management layer, and an arrangement of first connecting members connecting the cross member and the first light management layer.

摘要: This invention relates to a diode pumped slab laser in the form of a slab where two opposite faces are adapted to receive pumping radiation with the faces being cut at the Brewsters angle at one end to provide entrance/exit faces for the lasing radiation. The laser radiation beam follows a zig-zag path in the slab and is contained within the slab by total internal reflection. The laser slab is contained within an optical cavity which results in the laser beam completing a double zig-zag beam path. The design results in good pump/mode matching, mitigates thermally induced birefringence problems, overcomes amplified spontaneous emission problems, requires no coatings or curved surfaces, and is easy and relatively inexpensive to make. The slab can be used within both Quasi-CW and CW modes.

摘要: A light management unit is described for attachment to a display module, especially suited for an LCD TV or LCD monitor. The light management unit includes a directionally recycling layer including a structured side and a planar side where the structured side includes prism structures. The light management unit also includes a reflective polarizer positioned on the planar side of the directionally recycling layer. The light management unit also includes a diffusion structure incorporated into either the directionally recycling layer or between the directional recycling layer and the reflective polarizer. The diffusion structure causes a level of diffusion that is sufficient to prevent the appearance of colored bands when a viewer positioned along a line of sight that is perpendicular to the direction of the prism structures views the light management unit, illuminated from below, at an oblique angle from a vertical axis.

The system may include an intermittent power source; a transformer coupled to the intermittent power source, and a tap controller coupled to the transformer. The transformer may be configured to transform power from the intermittent power source to power with appropriate operating parameters for the heaters. The tap controller may be configured to monitor and control the transformer so that a constant voltage is provided to the heaters from the transformer regardless of the load of the heaters and the power output provided by the intermittent power source.

摘要: A filter for filtering particulate matter from liquids adapted to be received in a filter casing having a casing wall and an outlet is provided. The filter includes a filter element having a plurality of openings therein for filtering particulate matter while allowing liquids to pass therethrough, the filter element comprising a first section located proximate to the outlet and a second section adjacent to the first section. The filter element is receivable in the casing and is spaced apart therefrom such that the filter element and the casing wall define a space therebetween. A seal separates the first and second sections and prevents the flow of liquid therearound in the space. The seal is located below the outlet. A lower end member closes a lower end of the filter element, the lower end member preventing the flow of unfiltered liquid and particulate matter into the filter element.
