    摘要: Base stations and Radio Network Controllers, RNCs, and methods in such devices are disclosed. A base station (18) sends access indications to a RNC (20) indicating assignments and/or releases of common uplink resources. The RNC (20) uses the access indications received from the base station (18) to differentiate between successive accesses on the common uplink resources by a same User Equipment, UE (22), and to correspondingly differentiate between the processing of given data frames from the UE (22) as belonging to one or other of the successive accesses.

    摘要: In an aspect, a wireless terminal, operating in a wireless communication system with distinct areas that each include base stations, transmits a data packet to a network node on a common channel. The data packet includes a header with an identifier that is an area-specific identifier for the wireless terminal. The wireless terminal has been allocated an area-specific identifier but not a cell-specific identifier. A network node of the wireless communication system receives the data packet sent from the wireless terminal. The network node associates the area-specific identifier for the wireless terminal in the data packet with a network-wide identifier for the wireless terminal and handles the data packet according to the network-wide identifier.

    摘要: In one of its aspects the technology disclosed herein concerns a wireless terminal (30) which is configured to communicate over a radio interface (32) with a radio access network. The wireless terminal (30) comprises a timer (52) and a timer controller (54). The timer (52) is configured to determine when to release an Enhanced Dedicated Channel (E-DCH) resource utilized on an uplink from the wireless terminal (30) to the network. The timer controller (54) is configured to initialize or adjust the timer with a timer value received from the network, the timer value being for a mode in which the network has commanded the wireless terminal to request a common E-DCH resource.

    摘要: A new set of random-access preamble signatures are introduced to differentiate new-release UEs from UEs compliant only with earlier releases. Additional new features of a random-access procedure are also disclosed, including an ability to deploy multiple transmission-time-intervals TTIs) in a given area. An example mobile terminal, according to some embodiments of the present invention, selects a TTI from two or more possible TTIs. The mobile terminal then selects a preamble signature from a group of one or more preamble signatures associated with enhanced-uplink resources and associated with the selected TTI, and transmits a random-access channel (RACH) preamble, using the selected preamble signature. In some embodiments, the mobile terminal selects between a 2-millisecond TTI and a 10-millisecond TTI.

    摘要: Techniques for selectively steering traffic over E-DCH or over PRACH in a UMTS network are disclosed. An example method, implemented in a base station, includes the receiving (62, 72) of configuration data from a controlling node, such as a UTRAN RNC, the configuration data including parameters that define a condition for triggering a change in random access mode. The configuration data may include one or more resource-related thresholds and time-to-trigger values. The base station monitors (64, 74) one or more resource-related conditions and detects an event for triggering a change in random access mode. In some embodiments, the base station sends (66) a trigger message to the controlling network node, in response to said detecting, the trigger message indicating that a change in random access mode is needed. In other embodiments, the base station executes (76) a change in random access mode, in response to said detecting.
