Moreover, the used amount of an adhesive agent can be reduced, and reduction of the sealing property due to hardening or burning of the adhesive agent can be avoided.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a braiding yarn made of expanded graphite for a gland packing which is to be used in a shaft seal part of a fluid apparatus or the like. In the braiding yarn made of expanded graphite of the invention, an expanded graphite tape of a predetermined width is folded into a valley fold in the longitudinal direction, both end portions in the width direction of the expanded graphite tape are bent so as to be directed toward the inner side of the width direction of the expanded graphite tape, and the outer periphery of the tape is covered by a reinforcing member configured by a braided body of stainless steel wires. The expanded graphite tape may be twisted. Reinforcing fibers may be embedded in the expanded graphite tape. Part of expanded graphite particles on the side of the surface of the expanded graphite tape may be removed away. According to the expanded graphite tape of the invention, flaking of expanded graphite particles during a braiding process is reduced or prevented from occurring, and the pressure resistance of a gland packing can be enhanced.

On at least a portion of a principal face of the expanded graphite base member in which expanded graphite particles are pressurized and integrated together, opened thin-leaf graphite portions are formed. The principal face of the expanded graphite base member having the thin-leaf graphite portions can be impregnated with a sealing member such as PTFE or covered with a coating layer. As the form of the sealing material, a sheet, a press-molded product, a fabric, a string, or a braided article can be adopted.

The gland packing can prevent penetration leakage through minute gaps existing in the laminated parts, from occurring, can be sufficiently deformed so as to exhibit sure sealing properties even at a low tightening force, and has properties which result in a small amount of wear so as to ensure high sealing properties, so that high sealing performance can be maintained for a long term. In the gland packing, circumferentially projected parts are disposed on end faces of a die mold packing part made of an expanded graphite tape laminated into a spiral shape so as to be integrated with the part. Ring-like seal members are brought into tight contact with the end faces of the die mold packing part excluding the circumferentially projected parts in such a manner that the circumferentially projected parts project in an axial direction beyond the outer faces of the respective ring-like seal members.
