A multilayer film is produced by forming a first and a second layers consecutively on at least one surface of a biaxially stretched polyester base. The first layer contains particles and a binder both composed mainly of either tin oxide, indium oxide, zirconium oxide, or titanium oxide. When the refractive indexes of the base, the first layer, and the second layer are represented by η1, η2, and η3 respectively, the first layer and the second layer are adjusted for the refractive index such that the differences |η1−η2| and |η1−η3| are both not greater than 0.03. Adhesive strength is therefore kept high between the base and the layers to eliminate light interference, and the multilayer film offers an excellent optical property with few color rainbow effect.

An optical functional layer is formed on a first surface of a base material formed of polyester biaxially stretched. A protective material is formed on a second surface of the base material. The protective material includes fine particles, a lubricant, and a binder. The fine particles are formed of organic compound or inorganic compound. The binder is a polymer having a glass transition temperature of 40° C. or more. The lubricating properties of the surface are improved by the lubricant. As the lubricating properties improve, a necessary additional amount of the fine particles becomes less. Thereby, it is possible to prevent the degree of transparency from decreasing. Accordingly, the multi-layer sheet having high degree of transparency and excellent resistance to flaws can be obtained. It is possible to reduce bright unevenness by using the multi-layer sheet as the diffusion sheet.

A prism sheet is composed of a base layer made from polyester, an adhesion layer formed on one of the surfaces of the base layer, a back layer formed on the other surface of the base layer, and a prism layer formed on the adhesion layer. A main constituent of the back layer is water-insoluble polymer with glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least 90° C. Average reflectivity of the back layer is at most 3.5% at wavelength in a range from 380 nm to 780 nm. By containing water-insoluble polymer with Tg of at least 90° C. as the main constituent, the back layer becomes free from contact damage caused by contact with the prism peaks of the adjacent prism sheet. Setting the average reflectivity of the back layer to at most 3.5% imparts brightness enhancement properties to the prism sheet.
