    摘要: An insulation layer covering segment layers and a plurality of row electrodes arranged on a first substrate has, on its surface, first projections and second projections. The first projections have a shape and a height corresponding to those of the row electrode, and contacts partitions disposed on a second substrate. The second projections have a shape and a height corresponding to those of the segment layer. The partitions and the second projections constitute discharge barriers between columns, which prevents discharge interference from occurring between cells along the row electrodes.

    摘要: A plasma display panel includes row electrodes arranged on a first substrate, an insulation layer for covering the row electrodes, partitions each of which is placed in a boundary between columns of the second substrate and is continuous over an entire length of the column and a first projection that is formed on a surface of the insulation layer and has a shape and a height corresponding to those of the row electrode. In such a plasma display panel, a segment layer covered with the insulation layer is positioned in a manner to overlap with the partition in the first substrate and to avoid overlap with the row electrode and a second projection is formed on the surface of the insulation layer. The second projection has a shape and a height corresponding to those of the segment layer and constitutes a part of a discharge barrier between the columns.

    摘要: In a conventional method of driving a plasma display panel, for example, an auxiliary discharge is executed between an A electrode and a Y electrode to improve light-emission efficiency of a display discharge. However, since a phosphor layer is present between the A electrode and the Y electrode, the phosphor layer is exposed to a discharge, whereby there is a problem that its characteristic deteriorates. A method of driving a plasma display panel having a structure, in which at least three display electrodes X, Y, and Z used for a display discharge are provided to a display cell and no phosphor layer is formed between said display electrodes and a discharge space, the method comprising the steps of: varying a potential of at least one display electrode Z of said display electrodes during said display discharge; and making a potential of said at least one display electrode Z at a time of starting said display discharge different from that at a time of ending said display discharge.

A sustain discharge is produced in each display cell selected to be lit by applying sustain pulses between the common electrodes and the scan electrodes.

    摘要: In a reset period after a sustain discharge period, erase discharges are done by applying pulse voltages having different waveforms in the first erase discharge period for an ON cell turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period and in the second erase discharge period even for an OFF cell not turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period. Weak wall charges that could not completely be erased in the first erase discharge period, i.e., weak wall charges having been accumulated in the OFF cell under the influence of the ON cell can be erased in the second erase discharge period. This makes it possible to prevent an ON operation of the OFF cell that should not be turned on in the subsequent address period and sustain discharge period, and to improve the driving voltage margin.
