    摘要: Ceramic articles, particularly ceramic cores and molds for an investment casting and combinations of ceramic cores and molds are produced using temporary molds, patterns or models made by a rapid prototyping or solid free-form manufacturing process. The molds, cores and patterns are contacted with ceramic slurry, which is then solidified by lowering the temperature of the slurry. What was liquid in the original slurry is then removed by sublimation leaving behind a ceramic article having a configuration, which is defined by the temporary tooling. The ceramic article so produced may be densified by sintering, and is used in a casting process.

A fastener engages a threaded end of a tie-bolt to sandwich the ceramic disc between the wedge clamps. An axial spring is positioned between the fastener and the second wedge clamp to apply an axial preload along the longitudinal axis. Another coupling utilizes a rotor shaft end of a metallic rotor shaft as one wedge clamp. Still another coupling includes a solid ceramic rotor disc with a multiple of tie-bolts radially displaced from the longitudinal axis to exert the preload on the solid ceramic rotor disc.

    摘要: A shaft assembly includes a metallic portion and a ceramic portion. In a disclosed example, a ceramic shaft has a generally conical end that is at least partially received within a generally conical recess in one end of a metallic shaft. The recess has a first portion that has an inner surface that is received directly against a corresponding outer surface on a section of the ceramic shaft conical portion. A second portion of the recess is radially spaced from the ceramic shaft and provides a controlled gap within which a braze alloy is maintained. In one example, the second portion has an axial length that is more than twice a radial depth of the second portion. In another example, a transition surface between the first and second portions of the recess has a linear profile.

    摘要: A method for producing ceramic articles having a complex geometry. Temporary tooling is provided having cavities corresponding in shape to the desired ceramic article. The cavities are filled with a ceramic slurry which is solidified by freezing or gelation of a polymer. The ceramic is treated to remove the original liquid portion of the slurry and the temporary tooling is removed. The ceramic is then sintered. The ceramic article thus obtained may be used to investment cast a metal article.
