Abstract:
A bi-layer protective coating for a metal component, the bi-layer protective coating comprising a bond coating that is metallurgically fused to a substrate of the metal component, wherein the bond coating comprises one or more rare metals and a top coating that is mechanically bonded to the bond coating, wherein the top coating comprises one or more metal oxides, or one or more metal carbides.
Abstract:
A brake disc for disc brake comprises a braking band made of gray cast iron or steel, provided with two opposite braking surfaces, each of which defines at least partially one of the two main faces of the disc. The brake disc is provided with a base layer totally nickel-free and one or more carbides included in the nickel-free steel, which covers at least one of the two braking surfaces of the braking band. An intermediate layer composed of nickel-free steel is interposed between the base layer and at least one of the two braking surfaces of the braking band.
Abstract:
An example hydraulic system component of a machine includes a protective coating deposited by high velocity air fuel (HVAF) thermal spray, exhibiting high adhesion strengths and surface morphologies that promote lubricant adhesion and reduce the leakage of oil and/or hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic system. The coating may have surface roughness with RZ values less than 2 μm and hardness of 1000 Vickers or greater. The HVAF coating may be thinner than conventional coatings with thicknesses less than 100 μm. The HVAF coating may be deposited on a variety of steel components with adhesion strengths greater than those achieved by high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF). The HVAF coating may be formed without time consuming roughening and/or post-grind operations, resulting in cost savings compared to conventional coatings. The coatings may have operational lifetimes of 1000 hours or more.
Abstract:
A composite material comprising a first shielding layer (210); at least one metal containing layer (208) over the first shielding layer; and a second shielding layer (206) over said at least one metal containing layer opposite of the first shielding layer; wherein the first shielding layer (210) and the second shielding layer (206) each and/or in combination with other layers of the composite material provide the composite material with radiation shielding characteristics.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an antiwear-coated metal component (1), in particular for a ball valve (6), the tribosurface of which component is at least partially provided with a multi-layer antiwear coating (2). The antiwear coating (2) has at least a metal adhesion layer (3a), an adhesion-promoting layer (3b) and at least one first cover layer (3c). The adhesion-promoting layer (3b) comprises a carbide-forming metal or a boride-forming metal. The at least first cover layer (3c) comprises a hydrogen-free tetrahedral carbon. The invention further relates to a method for applying an antiwear coating (2) to a metal substrate (9) in order to produce an antiwear-coated metal component (1) of this type. The invention further relates to a ball valve, comprising an antiwear-coated metal component (1) of this type and an antiwear coating (2).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a multilayer cladding including a combination of ceramic and metallic components. The multilayer coating includes an inner layer, an intermediate layer and an outer layer. The inner layer can form the cladding structure, the intermediate layer can include a ceramic composite or ceramic-containing composite composed of interlocking woven or braided fibers, e.g., fiber tows wrapped on the inner layer to form a woven structure, and a matrix material, and the outer can be composed of metal or metal alloy, such as, in the form of a coating. The multilayer cladding is effective to protect contents of the cladding structure from exposure to high temperature environments.
