Exemplary embodiments include a stabilizing filter configured to filter out tilt errors incorporated into the uncorrected electronic compass reading and a filter adaptation module configured to control the stabilizing filter response based on the signal radius of the uncorrected compass reading and a pre-calibrated ideal radius for the compass. The filter adaptation module can be configured to calculate a filter response parameter as a function of the relative difference between the signal radius of the uncorrected compass reading and the pre-calibrated ideal radius. The filter response parameter can be passed to the stabilizing filter for controlling its operation.

The invention is based on feeding the filler material flow first along a first channel, which is next divided into two separate channels that are branched aside from the first channel. The forked branches can further be divided into a plurality of branches, and according to an advantageous embodiment, the manifold of feed channels exits into a feed nozzle of shielding gas and powderized filler material. The nozzle is provided with a plurality of grooves along which the gas and powderized filler material enter the welding plasma of the torch, and the gas flow becomes laminarized. The shielding gas and the filler material can be fed along a single manifold of channels and the tip of the torch can be made extremely small in size.

Disclosed is a plasma torch in which the position of the center electrode (1) is adjustable relative to the orifice of the plasma torch (2). The invention is based on a construction in which the center electrode (1) is mounted to the body part (9) of the plasma torch by way of a pivotal ball joint (7, 23), whereby the electrode (1) can be pivotally rotated in said joint (7, 23), thus making it possible to align the electrode tip to the orifice center of the plasma nozzle (2). The spherical element (7) of the pivotal joint is attached to the bearing box (23) with the help of a tightening gland nut (11, 12). The depth of the center electrode (1) can be adjusted by rotating a depth adjustment gland nut (14), which is attached to the spherical element (7) by a threaded joint. Due to its versatile adjustability the function of the plasma torch can be maintained in a stable range, thus significantly contributing to reduced wear and damage of the plasma nozzles.
