摘要： An apparatus for feeding and slitting soft goods has multiple slitting systems with respective slitting blades mounted on a cross rail. A slitting blade positioning system is movable parallel with the cross rail and operable to move slitting systems along the cross rail. A material feed motor is connected to a feed roller and operable to move the soft goods past the slitting system. A control is first operable to cause the slitting blade positioning system to move identified slitting systems to desired positions on the cross rail. Thereafter, the control operates a drive shaft motor to rotate slitting blades mounted on the drive shaft and the material feed motor, thereby moving the soft goods past the slitting blades.

The apparatus further includes a conveyor operable by the motor for conveying the soft goods past the slitting wheels, and a compression assembly having an actuator, a swing arm, and wheels for compressing the soft goods and holding the soft goods against the conveyor to preventing slippage or twisting.

摘要： A machine, for example machine for cutting discrete sheets of material from a web, which includes a web supply and a processing station such as a cutoff station, is provided with a variable index drive operating feed structure for moving the web intermittently a predetermined but adjustable distance. The web is advanced intermittently and at which the frequency that varies in direct relation to the continuous speed of an input drive motor. The amount at which the web is fed during each cycle of the intermittent motion is settable by an operator by varying a continuous dial of a variable index drive. The variable index drive is a mechanical transmission having an index mechanism which produces a first intermittent output, a variable ratio unit connected at the output of the index mechanism for producing a second intermittent output having a speed that differs from the direct output of the index mechanism by the setting of the variable ratio unit, and a differential which produces a variable displacement in each cycle by combining the two outputs.

摘要： A multi-needle quilting machine (10) and method are provided, in most embodiments of which needles (132) reciprocate horizontally through material (12) supported in a vertical quilting plane (16). Two or more bridges (21,22) are provided having separate motion control. Each bridge (21,22) has a row of selectively operable stitching element pairs (90), which may be fixed to or transversely moveable on the bridges (21,22). Either the material or the bridges may be moved relative to the frame. The bridges (21,22) each move transversely and vertically with the stitching elements (90) on each bridge can operate at different speeds. Each of the needle drives (25) and, in some embodiments the looper drives (26), can be selectively activated and deactivated. Control schemes are provided to quilt continuous patterns, discrete patterns, linked multiple patterns, 360 degree patterns, closely spaced patterns. A plurality of small presser feet (158) are provided, each for one or more needles (132). Looper adjustment, thread cutting and thread tension control are provided, as well as other features set forth in the specification. Thread tail wipe and tuck techniques, missed stitch avoidance, stitching element timing, tacking sequences, and other features are disclosed.

摘要： An indexing mechanism for providing intermittent rotation to a device includes a rotatable driven member having a pair of spaced oppositely disposed arcuate slots and a driving member having a pair of angularly spaced driving rollers engageable with the slots for rotatably accelerating and decelerating the driven member. The driven member locking rollers adjacent the slots engageable with the outer periphery of the driving member to prevent rotation of the driven member when it is not being indexed by the driving member. The indexing mechanism further includes a positive lock mechanism actuatable by a cam follower that rides within an endless cam track in the driving member. The positive lock mechanism is actuated by the cam follower to engage the indexed device and prevent rotation of the device when it is not being indexed.
