Abstract: A method for standardizing an ink jet recording head is arranged to be capable of utilizing the characteristics of each of recording heads to the maximum, while maintaining the compatibility between them. Particularly, the compatibility is maintained between the novel type recording head whose interior is partitioned into two layers through movable members, and a conventional type recording head. When the conventional type recording head is mounted on a novel type recording apparatus, all the requirements are handled by the novel type recording apparatus side to drive the conventional type recording head under a condition regulated for the conventional type recording head. When the novel type recording head is mounted on a conventional type recording apparatus, it is driven within the capacity of performance of the conventional type recording apparatus. A discriminator for discriminating the kind of mounted recording head is provided for each of the recording apparatuses. In this way, various control operations are attained. When the structure is arranged to use separate recording heads and ink tanks, the compatibility is maintained, while utilizing the difference in characteristics of the novel type recording head and ink, and those of the conventional type recording head and ink to the maximum by means of discriminating one kind of ink from another.

Abstract: An ink jet printing system is provided which has an ink jet printing apparatus and a host and which alleviates a data processing load on the ink jet printing apparatus, prevents a reduction in a printing operation speed, and realizes a cost reduction. The ink jet printing apparatus of this invention has an ink receiving member for receiving waste ink ejected onto an overrunning area outside edges of a print medium and an accumulated value memory section for storing an accumulated value equivalent to waste ink volumes ejected onto the ink receiving member. The host includes a waste ink volume setting section for obtaining a value equivalent to a waste ink volume and a data sending section for sending data to the ink jet printing apparatus. The accumulated value memory section of the ink jet printing apparatus stores the accumulated value equivalent to waste ink volumes obtained by the host.

Abstract: When the time period is night, processing advances to step S13 to set the initialization speed of a line feed motor to the first speed (v1), and to step S15 to execute initialization operation of the line feed motor at the first speed (v1). When the time period is morning or daytime, the processing advances to step S12 to detect a cover open/closed state. When the cover is open, the processing advances to step S13 to set the initialization speed of the line feed motor to the first speed (v1). When the cover is closed, the processing advances to step S14 to set the initialization speed of the line feed motor to the second speed (v2) which is higher than the first speed (v1). The processing advances to step S15 to execute initialization operation of the line feed motor at the second speed (v2).

Abstract: In an inkjet printer having primary power-turn-on means for physically supplying power to the printer and secondary power-turn-on means for bringing the printer into a state where functions are enabled, ink consumption due to a suction recovery processing is reduced. The number of times that the secondary power supply is on is counted. The count value is stored in a non-volatile memory. It is judged whether the count value is above a predetermined value when the secondary power supply becomes on, if yes, the recovery processing is executed. The count value and the contents of the memory are then cleared. The counting is prohibited till primary power supply is off. As the above contents is retained even after the primary power supply is off, necessity of recovery processing when the secondary power supply becomes on is judged based on the state before the primary power supply was off.
