    摘要: A method of shaping polymeric structures by coating a support structure with a bond-preventing agent to attain a particular shape and subsequently coating the shaped structure of the bond-preventing agent with a polymeric bonding composition is provided. Such shaped polymeric structures can have one or more cavities which can be fluid-filled or gel-filled. Also provided is a hand-actuating retention female urinary catheter having an inner tube and an outer overcoat layer encircling the tube with an elastomeric collar with a shroud. A cavity containing a fluid is interposed between the tube and the overcoat layer. The cavity includes a balloon portion and a reservoir portion. The shroud encircles the reservoir section to inhibit the ballooning of the reservoir section when the reservoir section is squeezed to force fluid from the reservoir portion to the balloon portion through the sleeve portion of the cavity. The overcoat layer and the collar with a shroud are made of soft resilient material.

    摘要: An external urinary catheter having integral adhesive means. The external urinary catheter includes (a) a single tubular sheath having a unitary construction made of silicone rubber, the silicone rubber having an inner surface and an outer surface; and (b) a layer of adhesive material bonded to a first portion of the inner surface; wherein the adhesive material can releasably contact portions of the outer surface such that the inner surface of the silicone rubber sheath can be rolled up on the outer surface thereof so that the adhesive layer on the first portion of the inner surface comes into releasable contact with the portions of the outer surface, and such that the adhesive material on the outer surface will then release any portions of the outer surface with which it has come into contact, while remaining bonded to the inner surface, when the silicone rubber sheath is forcibly unrolled. A method of making an external urinary catheter is also disclosed. Said method includes the steps of (a) coating a first portion of a mandrel with an adhesive material (b) subsequently overcoating the mandrel with a silicon rubber solution to form an overcoat layer made of unvulcanized silicone rubber; and (c) vulcanizing the unvulcanized silicon rubber such that constituents of the silicone rubber cross-link to form an elastomeric sheath having a unitary construction made of vulcanized silicone rubber; the silicone rubber sheath having an inner surface and out outer surface; and the adhesive material being bonded to a first portion of the inner surface.

    摘要: A male contraceptive hood which is adhesively secured to the penis, the hood being initially rolled up and the interior of the hood being free of adhesive until it is unrolled. The hood has a thin sheath which serves as the contraceptive device and an outer cylindrical member which is initially rolled together with the thin sheath. The outer cylindrical member has an adhesive on a portion of its outer surface, separated from the outer surface by a release agent, the adhesive being transferred to the inner surface of the sheath as the hood is unrolled onto a penis. The outer member can then be removed leaving only the thin inner sheath on the penis. A projecting portion is provided on the outer member for grasping the outer member to remove it.In a preferred form, a lubricant is disposed between the sheath and the inner surface of the outer cylindrical member. This lubricant remains on the outer surface of the sheath to facilitate removal of the outer member and also to aid in intercourse.The contraceptive hood may be either relatively short so as to extend only slightly beyond the head of the penis, or sufficiently long to extend over substantially the entire length of the penile shaft.

The retention catheter includes a tube 12, an overcoat layer 14 encircling the tube 12 and a cavity 16 interposed between the tube 12 and the overcoat layer 14.     摘要: A sustained release bactericidal cannula or catheter for residence within a portion of a human body through which aqueous biological fluids can pass. The bactericidal cannula for catheter including a tube having an inner surface, defining and interior lumen, and an outer surface. The tube has a polymeric matrix and antibacterial agent residing within at least a portion of the polymeric matrix. The polymeric matrix includes cured silicon rubber and the antibacterial agent is a finely divided nitrofuran compound which is soluble in water and effective to prevent proliferation of certain bacteria in an otherwise growth supporting aqueous environment when dissolved in the aqueous environment to the limit of its solubility therein at 37.degree. C. The solubility of the nitrofuran compound is preferably about 0.2% by weight or less at a pH of about 6 and a temperature of about 25.degree. C. The antibacterial agent can diffuse out of the polymeric matrix and into an aqueous biological environment when the polymeric matrix comes into contact with such an aqueous biological environment. Preferably, at least a finite portion of the polymeric matrix proximate the outer surface includes an amount of from about 10 to about 60% by weight of the nitrofuran compound and the amount of the nitrofuran compound and the solubility thereof cooperate to provide a potential for a sustained release diffusion thereof for a period of not less than about three weeks during normal use of the cannula within the human body. Methods of making a sustained release bactericidal cannula and of catheterizing a patient are also disclosed.
