摘要: An isolated Bacillus strain LSSAO1 is provided. When fed to a bird, this and other Bacillus strains described herein provide benefits to the birds. For example, administration of the one or more Bacillus strain can increase low G+C, gram positive bacteria in the gastrointestinal flora of the bird. These type of bacteria are increased by antibiotics and include beneficial Clostridium. Administration of the one or more Bacillus strain can also inhibit pathogen in the bird, such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Clostridium. These benefits can enhance feed conversion in poultry. Useful combinations of Bacillus strains and methods of using one or more Bacillus strain are also provided.

摘要: A composition comprising lactic acid bacteria that are selected from at least one of Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus lactis, and Lactobacillus brevis. The composition is suitable for administration to animals. Upon administration to an animal, the composition provides at least one of the following (a) improves performance in the animal and (b) reduces scours in animals. Also provided is a method of treating an animal in which the composition is administered to the animal. A method of forming a direct-fed microbial is also provided. A culture including the lactic acid bacteria is grown in a liquid nutrient broth. The lactic acid bacteria are separated from the liquid nutrient broth. The lactic acid bacteria can be freeze dried.

摘要: Disclosed are methods of administering at least two Bacillus strains to a pig, such as female breeding stock, nursery pigs, or other pigs. The Bacillus strains inhibit Clostridium in litters borne to the pig. The Bacillus strains also are useful when administered to herds lacking symptoms of Clostridium infection. Administration of the Bacillus strains improves performance of female breeding stock and in piglets borne by the female breeding stock.

摘要: TRFs useful for identifying strains of interest are provided. A method of identifying one or more strain that can be used as a direct-fed microbial is also provided. One or more strain identified by the method is additionally provided. A method is also provided for administering to an animal an effective amount of the one or more strain. Additionally provided is an isolated strain chosen from at least one of Lactobacillus acidophilus strain PlB c6 (NRRL B-50103), Lactobacillus salivarius strain o246e 33w (NRRL B-50102), Pediococcus acidilactici strain o246e 42 (NRRL B-50171), and Pediococcus acidilactici strain PlJ e3 (NRRL B-50101). An isolated strain having all of the identifying characteristics of one of the strains listed above is also provided. One or more strain can be administered as a direct-fed microbial to an animal. Methods of preparing a direct-fed microbial are also provided.
