摘要: A method of mimicking a phenotype of a first ruminating animal in a second ruminating animal is disclosed. The method comprises administering to the second ruminating animal a microbial composition comprising a plurality of microbes having a signature which is statistically significantly similar to the microbial signature of a rumen microbiome of the first ruminating animal, wherein the first and the second ruminating animal are of identical species, thereby mimicking the phenotype of the first ruminating animal in the second ruminating animal.

摘要: Methods for reducing the environmental impact of animal waste are described. In particular embodiments, the methods comprise administering to an animal an enzyme, such as alkaline phosphatase, that is effective to reduce the amount of a detrimental compound, such as ammonia or phosphorous, that is present in or released from animal waste. Also provided is a method for increasing phosphorus digestion in an animal. Compositions suitable for use in such methods are also described.

摘要: Methods are provided for assaying whether a Bacillus composition comprising at least one Bacillus strain is capable of increasing the amount of sugar available from animal feed comprising non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) in vivo when the Bacillus composition and animal feed are fed to an animal. Methods also are provided for increasing the amount of sugar available from animal feed comprising non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) when the animal feed is fed to an animal, comprising adding to the animal feed a Bacillus composition comprising at least one Bacillus strain, wherein the composition produces 120 hexose equivalents (μmol/ml) or more when measured by the method described herein. Animal feeds comprising 14% (w/w) or more of non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) if the animal feed is for a piglet, lactating sow, broiler or layer, or 19% (w/w) or more of non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) if the animal feed is for a grower-finisher pig or gestating sow, and a Bacillus composition comprising at least one Bacillus strain, as well as methods and uses relating thereto, also are provided.

摘要: Isoflavone-supplemented milk replacers fed to young animals during a pre-weaning provides isoflavones in the milk replacer at a level of about 700 mg per kilogram of the milk replacer, and/or provides about 450 mg of the supplemental isoflavone in at least about 1.5 pounds of the milk replacer by dry weight such that the animal ingests this amount of the isoflavone per day, and/or provides in the milk replacer at least about 50 mg of isoflavone per pound of the animal's birth weight is ingested per day. In response to ingesting the isoflavone-supplemented milk replacer, the young animal experiences improved performance.

摘要: A method of enhancing the growth of an animal is provided. The method includes causing the animal to ingest or absorb an effective amount of a preparation obtainable by a process including, bringing a tyrosinate moiety into contact with an Fe(III)-containing substance, optionally wherein the tyrosinate moiety is tyrosine and it is brought into contact with the Fe(III)-containing substance in the presence of a base, or wherein the tyrosinate moiety is a tyrosine salt and it is brought into contact with an Fe(III)-containing substance. Methods for inhibiting, reducing, or preventing biofilm formation or buildup on a surface; the treatment of, inhibition of growth of, and inhibition of colonization by, bacteria, both in biological and non-biological environments; disinfecting surfaces, potentiating the effects of antibiotics and other anti-microbial agents, and increasing the sensitivity of bacteria and other microorganisms, to anti-microbial agents are also provided.
