摘要: A method ensures that a reduction in data throughput is minimized in the event of a cell change in a GPRS network. When it is determined that cell change is appropriate for a mobile station, the BSS ensures that no further data for the mobile station is transmitted form the SGSN, and then continues to transmit all buffered data to the mobile station. The throughput may be deliberately reduced for a part of this time, so that the system timers become adapted to the reduction in throughput which will occur at the cell change. When the buffer has been emptied, the cell change is effected and, thereafter, that mobile station is prioritised in the BSS, in order to allow any buffered data on the uplink or downlink to be cleared.

摘要: Auser equipment, UE, (16) with established radio communications service with a first type of radio network (10), receives from the first network information including parameters for scanning for radio access points in a second type of radio network (12) different from the first type. The UE scans access points in the second type of radio network based on the received information and detects access point data and reports the detected access point data to the first type of radio network. Subsequently, the UE receives a signal from the first network to switch radio communications service from the first network to one of the access points in the second network. In response to the received signal, the UE switches radio communications service from the first network to one of the access points in the second network.

摘要: The performance of a network, such as a mobile communications network, having multiple network nodes can be monitored. In a first network node, certain data flows passing through the node are tagged by adding a performance management identifier. In a second network node, statistics relating to data flows containing the performance management identifier are aggregated, and the aggregated statistics are reported to a management node of the communications network. This allows for the gathering of accurate statistics relating to specific types of data flow, such as data flows to specific types of user equipment or containing specific types of data, even though the second node, in which the statistics are generated, cannot itself distinguish between the different data flows.

摘要: Methods, apparatus, and systems for measuring, on a per-QoS-class basis, the average number of user devices active on the uplink of a wireless communication system are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a number of mobile terminals with buffered data for transmission to a base station is estimated based on received buffer status reports. An estimated quantity of active mobile terminals is calculated, based on the received buffer status reports and a number of mobile terminals for which a semi-persistent scheduling grant has been granted. In some embodiments, the estimated quantity of active mobile terminals is estimated on a per-traffic-class basis, in which case the technique includes calculating first and second estimated quantities, corresponding to mobile terminals having active data bearers for first and second traffic classes, respectively, based on the received buffer status reports and the number of mobile terminals for which a semi-persistent scheduling grant has been granted.

摘要: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed, whereby a packet switched system emulates the location algorithm of a circuit switched system. The packet switched system, wherein cell reselection is performed primarily by the mobile stations, has advanced locating and flexible cell reselection capabilities that cause the packet switched traffic to behave (from a control standpoint) virtually the same, with respect to cell reselection and locating, as the circuit switched traffic. In other words, the packet switched mobile terminals are able to emulate the locating functions of the circuit switched system, which minimizes signal interference between the two systems.

摘要: A wireless terminal (30) is capable of communicating with a first network (22-1) and a second network (22-1, 22-3), the first network (22-1) being an LTE network. A wireless terminal method comprises (prior to making a request to participate in a circuit switched call with the second network) the wireless terminal (30) camping on a respective selected cell (of each of the first network and the second network and thereby having tuned to both the selected cell for the first network and the selected cell for the second network. In view of already camping on the selected cell of the second network, the wireless terminal (30) does not make a measurement with respect to a cell of the second network in a time period between the making of the request to participate in the circuit switch call and actual establishment of the circuit switched call with the second network.

摘要: The technology described relates to management of data packets and buffers comprising segments of data packets in a mobile communication system. Information associated with data packet segments is analyzed by a Base Station System (BSS) housing a data buffer. Based on this information analysis, the BSS can identify those segments in the buffer that constitute a complete data packet. Once identified, the segments can be discarded from the buffer. The information can include size information, whereby the analysis comprises pairwise comparing the size of a current segment with the size of a next consecutive segment. This size comparison enables identification of a first segment and a last segment of the complete data packet. The information could also, or alternatively, include a notification provided in the header of the segment. This notification identifies the associated segment as the first or last segment of the data packet or an intermediate segment.
