摘要： According to one embodiment, a communication device, which is connected to an external device, includes a key storage unit, an acquiring unit, a key selecting unit, and a calculating unit. The key storage unit stores therein a plurality of first information items obtained by twisting a plurality of device keys with first identification information for identifying the communication device. The acquiring unit acquires second identification information for identifying the external device. The key selecting unit selects one of the plurality of first information items using a media key block process. The calculating unit calculates a shared key, which is shared with the external device, using second information item obtained by twisting the selected first information item with the second identification information.

The program unit is extracted from the received data and is stored in a memory. The instruction data is extracted from the received data, and the program unit or part thereof specified by the instruction data is read from the memory and is executed. Then, the bit stream data and the execution result are displayed. This ensures smooth synchronization of reproduction of a bit stream with execution of an associated program and efficient use of resources.

The data storage unit includes a secret area that becomes readable when authentication has been made by using reading authentication information and that becomes writable when authentication has been made by using writing authentication information. The receiving unit receives an access request that is either a write request indicating that data should be written into the secret area or a read request indicating that data should be read from the secret area. The selecting unit selects the writing authentication information if the access request is the write request and selects the reading authentication information if the access request is the read request. The authenticating unit authenticates an access to the secret area by using one of the writing authentication information and the reading authentication information that has been selected.
