摘要： An image forming apparatus has a plurality of image forming stations capable of forming different images which are to be correctly registered and superimposed. Elimination of possible image misregistration in each image station is executed on the basis of the result of detection of register marks which are formed by each image forming station. The correction is executed at a timing which is independent from image forming sequences performed by each imgae forming station in accordance with image signals, e.g., during warming-up of the apparatus after the initial application of the power immediately after the input of image forming operation start instruction through a start key, or after completion of production of a predetermined number of copies counted from the last misregistration correcting operation.

A cancellation mechanism is provided to cancel a transfer member conveying force of the first conveyance mechanism after a leading end of the transfer member conveyed by the first conveyance mechanism has been supported on the transfer member carrier. A trailing end of the transfer member passes through a nip of the second conveyance mechanism during a period of time when the transfer member conveying force of the first conveyance mechanism is canceled by the cancellation mechanism and when the exposure device is not operating. In this arrangement, vibration generated when the transfer member is conveyed to the transfer member carrier by the first and second conveyance mechanisms is prevented from affecting the latent image formation made by the exposure device.

摘要： An image forming apparatus such as a laser beam printer has a plurality of movable image carrying members such as photosensitive drums, an image forming member such as a laser beam scanner capable of forming on the image carrying members images of different colors correspoding to image information, and transfer devices for sequentially transferring the image carried by the image carrying members to an image receiving member such that the image of different colors are superposed. 摘要： An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a sheet has a first conveyance path for guiding the sheet, and a second conveyance path arranged in continuation from the first conveyance path to guide the sheet conveyed from the first conveyance path. A conveyor drum, which may be an image transfer drum, retains the sheet on its surface and conveys the sheet such that the sheet moves along said second conveyance path. The drum and the second conveyance path are supported such that they can be moved in a direction which intersects the direction of sheet conveyance, so as to be drawn out of the main part of the apparatus. A sheet jam detector is provided for detecting a sheet jam at a predetermined position which is on the drum and which is spaced from the inlet of the second conveyance path by a distance greater than the length of the sheet which has the greatest length among the sheets which are to be handled by the apparatus, as measured along the second path. A plurality of conveying rollers located within the first and second conveyance paths are selectively rotated to ensure that a trailing end of the sheet passes the inlet of the second conveyance path. A space is provided within the second conveyance path for accommodating bulging of the sheet during that process.
