1,138,528. Laminated glass. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 24 Dec., 1965 [29 Dec., 1964], No. 54826/65. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] A laminate is obtained from a laminating resin and glass cloth which has been treated with a composition which comprises (i) a filmforming binder, (ii) a glass fibre lubricant, (iii) a coupling agent for coupling the film-forming binder to the glass fibres, and (iv) an antistatic agent which is the reaction product of a soluble transition metal salt and an aminoorganosilicon compound which is an aminoorgano (hydrocarbonoxy) silane or an aminoorganosiloxane, said amino-organosilicon compound having the amino group(s) bonded to the silicon atom through at least three successive carbon atoms of a divalent hydrocarbon chain. In examples (see Examples V and VI) a resin, which is derived from maleic anhydride and ethylene glycol and to which has been added styrene and a curing catalyst (benzoyl peroxide), is poured over a satin weave glass cloth, which has previously been treated with a composition as defined above, which is placed on a sheet of a flexible film e.g. cellulose acetate; another ply of the coated glass cloth is placed on the resin, additional resin is poured on the cloth and the procedure repeated until 12 plies of cloth have been added. The flexible film is then wrapped round the stacked laminate from which air is then removed by rolling and it is then cured at 145‹ F. for one hour. Specified amin-organosilicon anti-static agents are the reaction products of gamma-aminopropyl triethoxysilane with ZnCl 2 /HCl, CrCl 3 , FeCl 3 , AlCl 3 and ZrOCl 2 .
