    摘要: The invention relates to an improvement in a process for imparting barrier properties to porous substrates, such as, concrete, masonry products, and wood products. The process comprises the steps of: applying an aqueous based sealing composition comprising a polymeric resin to said porous substrate, evaporating the water and forming a water repellent coating of said polymeric resin on said porous substrate. The improvement comprises: deriving the polymeric resin from an aqueous based polymer emulsion comprising a polymer comprised of emulsion polymerized units of vinyl acetate and ethylene, preferably with a carboxylic acid monomer, the polymer containing amorphous and crystalline ethylene segments and having: (a) a crystalline melting point (Tm) ranging from 35 to 110° C., preferably 50 to 100° C.; measured at a heat rate of 20° C./minute; and, (b) a tensile storage modulus of at least 1×105 dynes/cm2 at 115° C. measured at 6.28 rad/sec.

    摘要: The invention includes producing a stable polybutadiene film on an alumina support wherein the alumina contains an alumina having a habit or form of crystals formed during a precipitation of aluminum hydroxide from an alkali metal aluminate by preselecting and controlling the pH of the alkali metal aluminate and the addition of certain monohydric and polyhydric alcohols to the alkali metal aluminate solution. Precipitation is controlled to form crystals having a habit or form which varies from principally acicular to principally lamellar crystal forms. This alumina is (a) coated with polybutadiene to form a polymer film layer on the alumina support and (b) the polymer film layer is cross-linked to form a stable polybutadiene coated and crosslinked on a support of acicular or lamellar alumina.

    摘要: A process is provided herein for coating a preformed, porous base material comprising a mineral fibrous or particle material or an organic fibrous or particle material or mixtures thereof to provide a novel preformed base material. The process comprises applying at atmospheric pressure a coating of a vulcanizable elastomeric material in unvulcanized form to a surface of such preformed, porous base material. The elastomeric material is permanently adhered to the preformed porous base material by a hot press, hot vulcanization step. In this way the elastomeric material is substantially simultaneously both adhered securely to one outer surface of the base material and is penetrated and impregnated below and into the same surface of the base material to be within the porous structure of the base material, and is vulcanized therein in situ by the joint action of a pressure of about 50 to about 500 Newton/cm.sup.2 at a temperature of about 120.degree. C. to about 300.degree. C.
