Abstract: A process includes applying a slurry to a surface of a metallic article to produce a slurry film on the surface. The slurry is composed of a liquid carrier, chromium and aluminum, and an agent that is reactive with the chromium and aluminum to form intermediary compounds. The article and slurry film are then thermally treated at an activation temperature at which the agent reacts with the chromium and aluminum to form the intermediary compounds. The intermediary compounds deposit the chromium and aluminum on the surface. The thermal treating also diffuses the chromium and aluminum into a sub-surface region of the article such that the sub-surface region becomes enriched with chromium and aluminum.

Abstract: A blade outer airseal has a body comprising: an inner diameter (ID) surface; an outer diameter (OD) surface; a leading end; and a trailing end. The airseal body has a metallic substrate and a coating system atop the substrate along at least a portion of the inner diameter surface. At least over a first area of the inner diameter surface, the coating system comprises an abradable layer comprising a metallic matrix and a solid lubricant; and the metallic matrix comprises, by weight, ≧35% nickel, 12.0-20.0% cobalt, 5.0-15.0% aluminum, and 5.0-15.0% chromium.

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for inspecting a component of a gas turbine engine, which includes a sleeve configured to surround a component of a gas turbine engine, the sleeve including: a pair of opposing wall members being secured to each other at at least one of a pair of opposite ends; an internal cavity located between the pair of opposing wall members, wherein the internal cavity extends from one end of the sleeve to an opposite end of the sleeve; and a plurality of orifices extending through the pair of opposing wall members, and wherein a probe is inserted in each orifice in one of the pair of opposing wall members to determine the state of the internal cavities of a gas turbine component and determine the structural integrity of the component.

Abstract: An airfoil includes an airfoil wall that defines a leading end, a trailing end, and suction and pressure sides that join the leading end and the trailing end. The airfoil wall is formed of a silicon-containing ceramic. A first environmental barrier topcoat is disposed on the suction side of the airfoil wall, and a second, different environmental barrier topcoat is disposed on the pressure side of the airfoil wall. The first topcoat is vaporization-resistant and the second topcoat is resistant to calcium-magnesium-aluminosilicate.

Abstract: A method is provided that involves rotational equipment that includes a case and a first rotor blade within the case. During the method, a probe is arranged within the case adjacent the first rotor blade. A magnetic characteristic of the first rotor blade is measured using the probe. Presence of internal corrosion within the first rotor blade is determined based on the measured magnetic characteristic.
