摘要: A slurry and a coating method are provided. The slurry includes, by weight, between 10% and 40% metal powder, between 10% and 15% activator, between 10% and 20% adhesive, between 10% and 20% thickener, up to 30% ceramic, and up to 25% binder. The coating method includes providing a slurry including, by weight, between 10% and 40% metal powder, between 10% and 15% activator, between 10% and 20% adhesive, between 10% and 20% thickener, up to 30% ceramic, and up to 25% organic polymer binder, providing a substrate, applying the slurry over a surface of the substrate to form a slurry coating, drying the slurry coating over the substrate, baking the substrate and the slurry coating, and curing the slurry coating over the substrate. The curing the slurry coating over the substrate transfers metal elements of the metal powder in the slurry to the substrate to form a coating on the substrate.

摘要: A method for forming molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) anodes by adjusting the reaction condition of pack cementation is disclosed. The method includes the steps of embedding a base metal sheet containing at least Ni in a pack containing alloy metal powder, an activator and a filler, pre-heating the pack to remove the organic material included in the base metal sheet, and maintaining the pack under a H.sub.2 /N.sub.2 atmosphere at a temperature of 500.degree. C. to 800.degree. C. for one to eight hours to form a Ni alloy. The method has a simplified procedure and is very useful to manufacture MCFC anodes having a very low creep deformation rate while porosity is in an appropriate range.

摘要: Foil, wire and similar coherent bodies of catalytic metal are provided with catalytically active surfaces by diffusing a chemically removable metal such as aluminum or zinc into those surfaces and then selectively dissolving out at least about a third of the removable metal. Platinum wire screens activated in this way make effective exhaust catalysts for automotive engines.

摘要: Aluminum diffusion can be effected from continuous coatings of leafing-type aluminum particles and such leafing coatings in very thin layers are more effective than coatings of non-leafing aluminum, with or without diffusion. Other protective metals in flake or leaf form can be substituted for or added to the leafing aluminum. Adhesion of the flakes to the substrate is greatly improved and can be effected at lower temperatures if the flakes are applied from a dispersion containing a volatilizable halogen-type carrier or an ammonium chromate. The leafing coatings can be sprayed on from aqueous dispersion containing wetting agents and if desired a polyethylenetrtrafluoroethylene and/or mixtures of phosphoric acid, chromic acid and magnesium, aluminum, calcium or zinc salts of these acids. A protective second coating of such mixtures can be applied as a cover layer over the layer containing the leafing aluminum, and this combination works best on a ferrous metal that has an aluminum diffusion coating, particularly a ferrous metal that contains less than 1% chromium and has such an aluminum diffusion coating. It also works very well on aluminum diffusion coatings from packs containing chromium, or chromium and silicon, in addition to the aluminum, and these alloys can be made by magnesothermic reduction of their mixed oxides or the like. The aluminum diffusion can also be made from a pack containing cobalt with or without a little chromium, and this forms a particularly desirable diffusion coating on nickel-base alloys. Aluminum diffusion coatings can be kept from undesired locations by covering those locations with an Ni.sub.3 Al-type masking layer containing thermoplastic resin over which is applied a powdered nickel masking layer containing thermoplastic resin. On firing this masking combination forms a strong shell that effectively masks without contaminating the surrounding coating pack.

摘要: An article is provided with improved resistance to hot corrosion through a coating on a metal surface based on an element selected from Fe, Co and Ni, the coating comprising a filled matrix bonded by interdiffusion with the substrate. The matrix is applied by impinging on the substrate metal surface a plurality of heated metallic particles, such as by plasma spraying. The coating includes a filler metal of aluminum and preferably an alloy of aluminum and at least one other element, for example Cr, deposited on and interdiffused with the matrix, such as through a halide vapor deposition process employing a mixture of aluminum powder and other powders. As a result of application of the filler metal, there is provided from the matrix a coating layer of an alloy including an average of about 8-20 weight percent aluminum, the application process resulting in substantial recrystallization of the matrix.

摘要: Greatly increased thermal fatigue cracking resistance of high temperature resistant base metals such as cobalt and nickel and their alloys used to fabricate jet engine components and like parts is realized by diffusion coating the base metal with chromium, silicon and aluminum in particular proportions to diffuse into the base metal to a uniform depth and distribution between and across intergranular boundaries in the base metal, enabling slowed initiation of thermal fatigue cracking in the diffusion coating as well as reduced corrosion in the base metal.
