    摘要: A method and apparatus for processing a communication signal in an optical network. A network node typically includes a transmit train for generating transmissions and a receive train for receiving transmissions from another network node. The network node may be, for example, an OLT or an ONU. In a receiver implementing the described solution, a photodiode is employed to convert received optical signals into electrical signals that are then provided to a TIA or other device for producing a differential output having an inverted output and a non-inverted output. One of the outputs is delayed one bit and attenuated, then combined with the other output to produce an equalized signal for further processing by the receive train. The solution may be analogously applied on the transmit side for introducing pre-distortion, either in addition to or in lieu of in the receiver.

    摘要: A method and system for upgrading service to an optical network terminal among a plurality of optical network terminals on a passive optical network. The upgrade enables bidirectional communications between a central office and the optical network terminal over dedicated downstream and upstream wavelength channels outside the downstream and upstream wavelength bands associated with the passive optical network. The optical network terminal to receive upgraded service is disconnected from a passive optical splitter at a remote node serving the optical network terminal, and optically coupled to a port of the multi-port arrayed waveguide grating at the remote node. Wavelength taps are provided at the central office and the remote node to facilitate multiplexing and demultiplexing the dedicated downstream and upstream channels with the downstream and upstream wavelength bands associated with the passive optical network. In this manner, certain users on the passive optical network may receive service upgrades to wavelength specific services without affecting other users who remain on the passive optical network.

    摘要: Several discrete hybrid amplifiers are used in parallel for amplifying an optical signal in an optical fiber system. An optical signal is first split into two or more separate signals each with a separate wavelength band. Each wavelength band is then amplified by a Raman pump utilizing a length of highly non-linear fiber as the gain medium, and by an SOA amplifier. The combination of the Raman amplifier and the SOA yields a level gain over the wavelength band. The amplified wavelength band signals are then recombined. The disclosed amplifier is especially useful in coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) systems and in local access portions of the network.
