The method includes generating an initial key after interacting with an access device, storing the initial key at a key storage location, altering the initial key with a public key to form an altered key, and sending the altered key to a server computer along with an identifier for the access device. The altered key is changed to the initial key at the server computer and is stored with the identifier in a database in operative communication with the server computer. The initial keys that are stored at the key storage location and in the database are used to alter and restore transaction data associated with multiple financial transactions that are conducted using the access device.

    摘要: A technique for improving the security of a portable consumer device may include storing a first account identifier and a second account identifier associated with the first account identifier, the second account identifier and the first account identifier being associated with the same account on the portable consumer device. When the portable consumer device is interacting with a reader device to conduct a transaction, the portable consumer device may determine whether the transaction is a proximity transaction by sensing whether a wireless interrogation signal is being transmitted from the reader device, and determine which of the first account identifier and the second account identifier to provide to the reader device based on whether the transaction is a proximity transaction.

One embodiment of the invention includes receiving a transaction message relating to a request by a consumer to conduct a transaction using a portable consumer device, wherein the consumer was previously enrolled in an authentication program and the consumer was previously authenticated, analyzing the transaction message to determine if a re-authentication event has taken place, causing a re-authentication message to be sent to the consumer before initiating an authorization request message to the issuer if the re-authentication event has taken place, and initiating the authorization request message to the issuer without sending the re-authentication message to the consumer if the re-authentication event has not taken place.
