    Abstract: A relatively small, electrical device which provides voltage signals on two output lines thereof. The output lines are adapted to be connected by way of a suitable plug to a set of special input terminals on a molded case circuit breaker. The simulator is energized by standard 120 volt, 60 hz. power. The signals from the output terminals of the simulator are provided to the static trip circuit of the circuit breaker. The input connections are so arranged as not to interfere with the overload sensing devices of the circuit breaker being tested. Consequently, the circuit breaker need not be disconnected while testing. By moving a selector switch, either a high level or low level signal may be applied from the simulator to the static trip circuit. The high level signal corresponds to an overload condition which would normally cause an instantaneous trip of the circuit breaker. This signal is timed or limited to be removed from the input of the trip circuit after a short period of time. This prevents the trip circuit from being damaged by the signal. A low level signal may be applied which simulates that kind of overload condition which would normally cause the circuit breaker to trip after a predetermined delay.

    Abstract: A motor operating device for reciprocating a circuit breaker handle structure between operating positions comprises a reversible motor, an opening relay, a closing relay and limit switch means operable to interrupt the motor circuit and to deenergize the energized relay. The limit switch means comprises a pair of mechanicaly interlocked molded-case circuit breakers with each of the circuit breakers being in series with a separate one of the reversible motor windings and in series with a separate one of the relay coils. Each of the relays is a four pole relay with one pole controlling the associated seal-in circuit; one pole controlling the associated motor energizing circuit; one pole providing an electrical interlock with a pole of the other relay; and one pole cooperating with a pole of the other relay to provide a dynamic braking circuit. The motor operated circuit breaker is also manually operable, and the control circuit is automatically prepared for an electrical operation to either the reset position or the closed position following a manual operation to the open position.

    Abstract: A magnetic latch for use with relay is provided. In one embodiment of the invention, a latch which can be assembled to a standard relay in the field is provided for latching the relay in a predetermined position. The latch is magnetically biased toward a latching position to follow the movement of the movable contact in the relay and to latch the relay when in the selected position. A spring can be added to bias the latch towards a latching position. The movable contacts of a standard relay are spring biased by a force which is less than that provided by the disclosed magnetic latch. An electric coil is provided for opposing the magnetic flux generated in the latch permitting the spring provided in the standard relay to move the magnetic latch to an unlatched position. In a second embodiment of the invention a magnetic latch for a relay is provided which is latched by a permanent magnet in the open or closed position. The latch includes an armature which is held in the open or closed position by means of two permanent magnets. A coil disposed around the armature can be energized to change the position of the magnetic latch. The direction of movement of the armature is determined by the direction of current flow through the coil and this is controlled by a diode switching arrangement.

    Abstract: A terminal lug is provided for connecting an electric cable to an electric bus conductor in which the terminal lug is held to the electric bus conductor by a U-shaped clip. The terminal lug comprises a body member having a passage formed therein for receiving the electric bus conductor and a portion of the electric cable. A boss is formed in the passage for engaging an opening formed in the bus conductor when the bus conductor is inserted in the passage through the body member. The U-shaped terminal clip holds the bus conductor to a portion of the internal surface of the passage through the body member so that the boss formed in the passage engages the opening in the bus conductor to securely fasten the terminal lug to the bus conductor. A terminal screw extends into the passage through the body member opposite the bus conductor to engage the electric cable and force a portion of the electric cable into good electrical connection with the bus conductor.
