The present invention relates to an adapter device for connection of a low voltage switching device to a distribution bus bar system. The adapter device comprises a body provided with a front wall, which can be connected to the switching device, and a back wall, opposite the front wall. The device comprises first electrical terminals susceptible to electrically contact one of the distribution bus bars and second electrical terminals. The device also comprises first electrical connections electrically connected to first electrical terminals and which can be coupled with corresponding third electrical connections of the switching device. The adapter device is also provided with second electrical connection means connected to corresponding second electrical terminals and which can be coupled with corresponding fourth electrical connections of the switching device. The adapter device also comprises a plurality of coupling terminals, at least partly emerging from the back wall of the body, to removably connect the adapter device to the distribution bus bar system. In particular, each of the first electrical terminals electrically contacts one of the distribution bars following the action of one of said coupling terminals.

The plug contact can be positioned as a function of the position of the busbar with which contact is to be made, and is held on a contact mount, which can be moved transversely with respect to the busbars and can be locked to the circuit breaker enclosure. In a circuit breaker such as this, a pole conductor change from one busbar to another busbar can be carried out quickly and without the use of any tools.

In a preferred embodiment, the shield surfaces form a slot dimensioned to permit the unrestricted movement of the circuit breaker handle. A first grip surface is disposed at one of the slot. A second grip surface is disposed at the other end of the slot. A passageway in the second grip surface is shaped and positioned so that a distal portion of the circuit breaker actuator-handle extends through the passageway when the circuit breaker is in an on-position. When the user grasps the second grip surface, pressure is applied to the actuator-handle, tripping the circuit breaker into a non-conducting state whenever the circuit breaker is inserted or removed.

A circuit breaker mounting arrangement for use in a device such as a transfer switch includes a mounting member adapted for securement to the transfer switch. The circuit breaker includes a head portion having a reset member, and a rearwardly extending body portion which terminates in a rear end wall from which a pair of contact prongs extend. A mounting member is provided for each circuit breaker, and includes an internal recess or cavity adapted to receive the circuit breaker body portion. The mounting member further includes an end wall which in part defines the recess, and a pair of engagement members are mounted to the end wall. The engagement members are configured to receive the circuit breaker prongs when the circuit breaker is inserted into the passage of the mounting member, for establishing an electrical connection between the circuit breaker prongs and the engagement members. Each engagement member includes an external connection area adapted to be wired into the circuitry of the transfer switch, and the circuit breakers can be removed from the mounting members and selectively replaced as required without the need to disassemble the transfer switch to remove the circuit breaker from the electrical circuitry.

A safety arrangement for the protection of life and matter against damage from electrical current applied to nonstationary electrical appliances connected to grounded supply networks. A core-balance protective switch with a nominal tripping current below 50 milliamperes precedes the appliances. The protective conductor of the safety arrangement leads, over at least one switch contact of the protective switch, to one or several primary windings of the balance transformer of the core-balance protective switch. The total number of turns of one of the primary windings for the connection of one of the phase conductors or of the neutral conductor of the supply network. In the core-balance protective switch a voltage dependent resistor arrangement is connected in series to the protective conductor with such characteristic that its resistivity is high at low voltages but very small at higher voltages. This voltage dependent resistor arrangement consists of two identical single voltage dependent resistors with oppositely directed characteristics, connected in series to each other and to a limiting resistor.
