摘要:
A medical device may include an extravascular system for communication of fluid with a vascular system, a fluid path within the extravascular system, and a fluid flow director in communication with the fluid path. The director encourages movement of stagnant fluid within the fluid path of the extravascular system. A method may include providing an extravascular system having a fluid path and encouraging the movement of stagnant fluid within the fluid path of the extravascular system.

A vascular access device within an external environment may include a body and a septum at least partially housed within the body. Septum may at least substantially seal a lumen extending through the body. The septum may further include at least a first and a second material. At least one of the materials of the septum may be selected or adapted to resist tearing of the septum.

A medical device may include a vascular access device having a body and a membrane of the body. The membrane communicates with a pathogenic environment and discourages adhesion of a pathogen to the membrane. A method of discouraging a pathogen from residing on the membrane of a vascular access device includes providing a vascular access device with a body having a membrane and discouraging a pathogen from residing on the membrane.

A vascular access device may include a body and a layer of the body that communicates with a pathogenic environment to discourage adhesion of a pathogen to the layer and thus repress pathogenic activity. A method of repressing pathogenic activity in a vascular access device includes providing the device with a body, and coating the body with a layer that discourages adhesion of a pathogen to the layer.

An enhanced catheter introducer and method for making the same are disclosed. The catheter introducer may have a splittable sleeve assembly configured to be inserted into a blood vessel with a cannula. The cannula may then be removed, and a catheter may be inserted into the sleeve assembly. The sleeve assembly may be removed from the catheter by pulling handles of the sleeve assembly in different directions to split the sleeve assembly into two pieces. The sleeve assembly may have failure zones that enable the sleeve assembly to be easily split; the failure zones may take the form of thinned regions running along the length of the sleeve assembly. The sleeve assembly may be injection molded with a single step by injecting flows of molten plastic into a cavity of a mold such that the flows converge into an even distribution about the circumference of the sleeve. The mold may have a core pin designed to fit into the cavity. Through the use of the even distribution of flows, the core pin may seat within the cavity in an untensioned manner.

A medical device includes an antimicrobial layer. A method of depositing an antimicrobial agent on or in the body of a medical device includes inserting a high temperature resistant tube having multiple holes through its surface into a vascular access device and coating, or delivering an antimicrobial agent to, and interior surface of the device.

A delivery wire assembly for delivery of an occlusive device to a location in a patient's vasculature includes a delivery wire conduit having a proximal tubular portion coupled to a distal coil portion, the respective tubular and coil portions defining a conduit lumen. A core wire is disposed in the conduit lumen and having a distal end coupled to an occlusive device, wherein an elongate electrical contact body at least partially seated in the conduit lumen and coupled to a proximal end of the core wire, the electrical contact body and the proximal tubular portion forming a junction. A coil collar is disposed around the electrical contact body near the junction
摘要:
An occlusive coil delivery system includes a delivery wire having a distal end coupled to an occlusive device via an electrolytically severable junction, and an electrical contact secured to a proximal end of the delivery wire, which has a non-linear configuration so as to strengthen a mechanical connection with the electrical contact and/or increase electrical conductivity with the electrical contact over a linear configuration. The configuration may be, by way of non-limiting examples, a “U” shape, a spiral, a knot, or a twisted wire. The electrical contact is a conductive material that substantially envelopes the proximal end configuration of the delivery wire.
