摘要: A memory element is provided that includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and an active region disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein at least a portion of the active region comprises an elastically deformable material, and wherein deformation of the elastically deformable material causes said memory element to change from a lower conductive state to a higher conductive state. A multilayer structure also is provided that includes a base and a multilayer circuit disposed above the base, where the multilayer circuit includes at least of the memory elements including the elastically deformable material.

摘要: A nanoscale switching device is constructed such that an electroforming process is not needed to condition the device for normal switching operations. The switching device has an active region disposed between two electrodes. The active region has at least one switching layer formed of a switching material capable of transporting dopants under an electric field, and at least one conductive layer formed of a dopant source material containing dopants that can drift into the switching layer under an electric field. The switching layer has a thickness about 6 nm or less.

摘要: A composite material for providing at least one of a negative effective permeability and a negative effective permittivity for incident radiation of at least one wavelength is described. The composite material comprises a plurality of three-dimensional resonant cells disposed across a first substrate. Each three-dimensional resonant cell comprises a base substantially parallel to the substrate and at least three sidewalls upwardly extending therefrom. Each upwardly extending sidewall comprising a sidewall substrate having at least one conductor patterned thereon. Each upwardly extending sidewall is fabricated by forming the sidewall substrate as a substantially horizontal layer above the first substrate, lithographically patterning the sidewall substrate with the at least one conductor while horizontally disposed above the first substrate, and tilting up the sidewall substrate to the upwardly extending position.

摘要: An apparatus for controlling propagation of incident electromagnetic radiation is described, comprising a composite material having electromagnetically reactive cells of small dimension relative to a wavelength of the incident electromagnetic radiation. At least one of a capacitive and inductive property of at least one of the electromagnetically reactive cells is temporally controllable to allow temporal control of an associated effective refractive index encountered by the incident electromagnetic radiation while propagating through the composite material.

摘要: An apparatus for detecting at least one species using Raman light detection includes at least one laser source for illuminating a sample containing the at least one species. The apparatus also includes a modulating element for modulating a spatial relationship between the sample and the light beams to cause relative positions of the sample and the light beams to be oscillated, in which Raman light at differing intensity levels are configured to be emitted from the at least one species based upon the different wavelengths of the light beams illuminating the sample. The apparatus also includes a Raman light detector and a post-signal processing unit configured to detect the at least one species.
