摘要： A bar code scanning and labeling apparatus for scanning and decoding a bar code associated with a product and generating a two dimensional bar code dataform incorporating selected data including at least a portion of the decoded, product related data from the product's bar code and additional data related to the product is disclosed. The apparatus includes a microprocessor having data selection circuitry adapted to retrieve the selected data and to assemble the retrieved selected into a format suitable for encoding. A method of providing a modified bar code dataform using the apparatus is also disclosed. The steps of the method include: scanning and decoding a product's bar code dataform; selecting data to comprise the modified bar code dataform, the selected data including decoded data relating to the product from the product's bar code dataform and additional data related to the product; and utilizing the selected data to produce the modified bar code dataform.

摘要： The invention features an image reader and a corresponding method for capturing a sharp distortion free image of a target, such as a one or two-dimensional bar code. In one embodiment, the image reader comprises a two-dimensional CMOS based image sensor array, a timing module, an illumination module, and a control module. The time during which the target is illuminated is referred to as the illumination period. The capture of the image by the image sensor array is driven by the timing module that, in one embodiment, is able to simultaneously expose substantially all of the pixels in the array. The time during which the pixels are collectively activated to photo-convert incident light into charge defines the exposure period for the sensor array. In one embodiment, at least a portion of the exposure period occurs during the illumination period.

In one embodiment, the focus element comprises a variable form element and a variable position element, the combination of which causes an image distance that can change in accordance with a separation distance between these two elements. The focus element can comprise an actuator, e.g., a piezoelectric actuator, which can be coupled to the variable position element in a manner that can cause the variable position element to deform the variable form element, and in one example, the deformation changes the focal length of the variable form element.

The EIR terminal can be associated with a home network and have a home address belonging to the address range associated with the home network. The EIR terminal can participate in one or more communication sessions and exchange messages, at least one of which can include decoded message data corresponding to an encoded message, with the host computer. The EIR terminal can maintain active communication sessions using its home address when roaming between the interconnected networks.

An indicia reading terminal can also include a variable focus imaging lens.
