    摘要: A servo system for displacing a head relative to a disk of a hard disk drive. The servo system comprises a dual-stage actuator, a calibration signal generator, and a calibration factor generator. The calibration signal generator generates a calibration signal having a calibration portion. The calibration factor generator generates a calibration factor. The servo system operates in operating and calibration servo modes. In the operating mode, the system defines first and second servo loops. The calibration factor is used as one of the parameters of the second servo loop. In the calibration servo mode, the calibration signal forms the second control signal, and the calibration factor generator generates the calibration factor based on movement of the head before any substantial response of the third servo loop to the calibration portion.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a push-pin assembly for use with a positioning arm of a disk drive servo writer. The push-pin assembly promotes vibrational damping between the push-pin assembly and the actuator arm. Push-pin assemblies of the invention generally include a contact pin having a shaft and a contact head. The push-pin assembly also includes a body having a contact pin receptacle recessed into an end so that at least a portion of the contact pin shaft can be disposed in the receptacle. The contact head is thus disposed beyond the end of the body which includes the contact pin receptacle. The push-pin assembly additionally includes a vibration damper disposed between at least a portion of the contact pin shaft and the body.

    摘要: A system provided for protecting a disk drive from impact damages. More specifically, a disk drive is provided that includes an accelerometer interconnected to a printed circuit board that detects free fall of the disk drive. In addition, the velocity of spinning disks of the disk drive is also monitored to assess changes in velocity thereof that may indicate the presence of a tumbling condition. Furthermore, the change in acceleration measured by the accelerometer is monitored to prevent false indications of free fall due to common vibrations. Thus an enhanced system is provided that protects disk drives from the effect of free falls under a wide variety of conditions and allowing for drops from shorter distances to be identified.

    摘要: An actuator arm assembly has an actuator arm and an actuator for moving the actuator arm whereby the arm assembly experiences vibrations. The actuator has a body with a recess formed therein, and a strain sensor is fitted essentially inside the recess such that the sensor generates signals correlated to the vibrations. This arrangement produces a high gain boost from the strain based sensor, making an amplifier circuit unnecessary. The sensor signals are used to damp the vibrations.

    摘要: A disk drive is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a disk comprising a plurality of spiral tracks, wherein each spiral track comprising a high frequency signal interrupted at a predetermined interval by a sync mark. An offset r0 representing a difference between an axial rotation of the disk and an axial rotation of the spiral tracks is estimated. Radial dependent timing compensation values are generated in response to the estimated r0. A phase error is generated in response to the sync marks in the spiral track crossings. A control signal is generated in response to the phase error and the radial dependent timing compensation values, and a frequency of an oscillator is adjusted in response to the control signal.
